Speaking of Nationals, late fees start in 5 days and we only have 30 entries (32 minus Rick and Jason U.) It would be nice if we could top last years 48 entries in open class, but does not look promising. STUL has 4 so far. $75.00 after 4:00pm on Wednesday the 29th and $150.00 the following Wednesday after 4:00pm, Sept. 5th.

So far for the Pro Finale, Max and James are signed up. Registration opens back up next Tuesday the 28th. Corey and I will be there. Any one else?

I don't think I'll be making the trip. Too much $ for me right now. Sucks because my car is working very well right now.

I am trying to make it for the Solo Nationals. I can't do both Pro Solo and the Solo Nationals. Just too much time away from the family and work. Being that I have 2 young kids and am married it is not looking so good. Still trying to come up with funds but, mostly still trying to convince the "boss". Should know by Monday.

Dave

Your running the PA State Championship, right? I am trying to make it for Saturday. Sunday I can't because of a Philly region event but, both might get axed since its Labor Day weekend.

I was planning to go during the beginning of the year but the fiasco with not being able to get coilovers in time. I need time to tune the suspension and at the pace I work, it won't be done til end of next year. The rules change they disguised as "clarifications" has made my car illegal to run @ NATs anyways.

Dave you have to go because you started this thread. It's the law.

Yep, says so right in the SCCA ruleset for STU. I realize you can't see it in black and white but your "intent" was very clear.

Therefore Dave Mac, you have no choice.

evo8dad and DaWorstPlaya???? Half the fun is the evening festivities.

Hey all,
Haven't found much discussion on brake pad choice in the STU thread. I'm in need of some new pads and am thinking the Hawk HP+. Any thoughts? What have you guys found works well for autocrossing the Evo on street tires?

Stock? In all honesty, they are some of the best for modulation. The problem is the price; they are damn expensive.

Thanks for the reply Jon. Yup, the price is the issue w/stock pads, as they are generally at least twice as expensive as some of the more popular replacements...

I've run 2 sets of stock pads, Project MU Titan Kia full race, and presently run Ferodo DS2500's f/r. Both Project MU and Ferodo's need some heat in them, but when they do, they perform and feel much better than the stock pads. Normally, after the first autox run is when they start to come in. For some reason, I also found that the Ferodo's activate the ABS less than the factory pads under quick, hard braking. The only down side is that the DS2500's squeel under soft braking. The Titan Kia's are even worse. Not something you would want as a daily driver.

I plan to try the Hawks or Porterfields next.

I also use Ferodo DS2500's front and rear on an RS. Very good modulation as stated above, at least as good as the stocks. However, I have had no squeel in more than 5k miles. You just need to make sure you grease them properly when mounting.

I haven't used them in cold weather yet, but they are significantly superior to stock pads on a road course and they seem to last longer...

I'm using the Hawk HP+ this season, so far I like them a lot better than the stock pads, Project Mu B-force or NS (I've used all three). They do need a little bit of heat in them as they typicall don't come in until after your first real braking zone out on course. They are noisey, like I've heard with the Ferodo's, they squeal under light braking.

Ferodo DS2500s: Good autocross pads (will need heat to work well), but if you ever do track them, they will leave brake dust embedded in your wheels (I used them on the rear, swtiching to Axxis Ultimates on the rear now).

HP+: I am daily driving/autocrossing on now, and while they are a decent autocross pad, they make me want to shoot myself in the face on the street. WAY too much noise during slow speed / light pressure braking.

Project Mu Titan Kai: Good autocross and medium-track pad (will take some heat to work well though). Can be noisy on the street, but MUCH less than the HP+

My opinion for an autocross / daily driven pads: Hawk HPS, Porterfield RS-4, or Endless CCA (amazing initial bite, haven't autocrossed on them, though, only tracked them in a borrowed car. Seemed like they would be a good autocross pad). I'd also like to try the Axxis Ultimates in the front.
