Comprehensive Evo STU prep thread?

50!! WOW
i can't make it though. I wasn't able to rearrange my work schedule to make the trek out there
Next year for sure though.
Good luck to those of you running this year at Nats

Does anyone have an opinion about the KW Variant 3’s? For the dollar they “read” well…
I’ve been running the JIC’s FLT_A2’s this season and w/no adjustment to slow down the rebound uneven surfaces have felt more like a shifter cart than a door slammer.
Thanks
Tim
PS: Good luck to everyone at Nationals. Have fun and go fast.

I'm happy with the KWs although I got a set of Robispec'd ones and the spring rates were definately not Solo friendly. i swapped out the KW springs and put in a set of Hypercos at all 4 corners and the difference was night and day.
If I was to do it all over again I'd go with the Zzyzzx Motorsports Koni setup. Needless to say, if ur interested in a well setup KW V3 let me know I am looking to sell them for the right price.

We are actually at 48 since Rick dropped and Jason Uyeda is switching to BSP. Maybe Rick will reconsider.
You would think the number would have been higher considering the class made National status this year. I'm also surprised the total entries for this year's Nationals stayed under 1200 again. Is new membership lacking or is the rising cost to attend the culprit?
Dave
ps. <sshhh> also waiting for my Rick Jung (CrioDesign) parts to arrive shortly.

I use the KW V3's and I like them now that I've got the suspension sorted. You should contact www.GTWorx.com and talk to Andrew. Tell him you want the KWV3DMAC package. It'll get you the right spring rates and valving set to make you competitive right away. Totally turnkey.
I just don't want to show up with an (now) illegally prepped car. It takes just one weenie to ruin the fun. To those going have fun and good luck!
Good advise. I had the KW's and now have the Zzyzx setup. Couldn't be happier. I still can't believe how well these work on the street for the sprig rates I'm running.
My Evo appears to be working now. With a mad dash to get the head in, timing belt back on, lifters bled and all that, we also threw on a more aggressive alignment. I'll have the car on the dyno later today with a final STU tune happening in the early part of next week. I really hope all the gains we saw when tuning a 9 for STU weren't from tuning MIVEC...
I set the initial front camber at max, just to see how far I could get. The car will do -3.3 on one side and -3.6 on the other. I already have one camber bolt 180 out on one side to equalize the sides a bit. I settled for ~-3.2 with one side only being 1.5 ticks different from the other. Good enough.
After BEGGING the Firestone guy to let me use my custom specs (my normal alignment guy took the weekend off), I finally got a guy willing to do what I wanted. A cry of "holy ****" came up once he zeroed in the rack. Dumping the camber in the front from -2.0 to -3.2 caused the car to toe in 1.5 degrees total. The car was freaky driving with that much toe to the alignment shop. I also managed to coerce the guy into giving me some more negative camber in the car. The car will do at least -2.4 in the rear but I settled on -2.0 with about .20 total toe-in. It definitely doesn't look as easy to go from a street to a race alignment without either going to the alignment shop or using toe plates.
Tomorrow will be the first event in the Evo in about 1.5 months but hopefully I can decide how I feel about the alignment.

Chad, thanks for the input yesterday. Derek and I will have to get a look at our spring rates and make some changes. I know Derek is running a PCA event later this month then we will have a few events in Oct. Spring changes, some dyno time and a lot of luck maybe we can draw Dave Mac in.
I picked up a few good ideas on what to do to get my car tuned a little better too. Like some new tires......grrrrrrrrr. I think we'll see a nice evolution of car development into next year and the cars will be faster yet.
Who had the GG STU Evo with the big wing at FedEx on Sunday? Was that dannykao? How did you like the wing on course?
I had a rough time on that course in SM. I tried rear toe out on my car for the first time and it really hampered putting down power around turns without getting loose, at least with my driving style.
Also, I just got a set of 265 35 18 RE-01Rs, which I'm going to be running at Summit Point next week. What sort of cold/hot pressures would you guys suggest?
Thanks.

Here is a picture of Corey's car I took in the last event:
but I can't help it...
