Comprehensive Evo STU prep thread?
Is Mike done with the Bimmer? He had that thing rocking for a few years when STU first appearred as a class.
For those of you who ran at Topeka, how was the course? Still slippery like last year or has the surface begun to break in somewhat allowing the fancy compound they used to finally show its benefit. I heard it wasn't that great but, no specifics.
I've heard some rumblings from a few competitors wondering about making some changes to the boost rules. Could we finally have some enforcement on the horizon or would it be better to go the way of BSP?
It would be nice to at least be able to tune the boost fluctuation out of the equation. I really don't care about running more that 19.5 lbs of boost but, ridding of the damn fluctuation as it reaches redline would be nice.
The other thing that should be allowed is aftermarket clutches. Why oh why is ST not allowed to run an aftermarket clutch? I understand the whole concept behind keeping the class's cost levels down (which is a joke considering most of the competitive suspensions are upwards of $3k) and to only allow basic bolt-ons, which is also a joke. Fortunately I run my own shop specializing specifically in the Evolution but, to the normal racer how would they do bushing upgrades and the other things that are allowed.
Anyway, allowing a stronger clutch for longevitiy purposes would not hurt a bit. I understand a ban on lightened flywheels but, the clutch package should be upgradeable. I'm not saying twin disc monsters but, just something that could take the abuse of a Pro Solo and regular Solo season.
Just ask Corey about his clutch and how well it lasted ;-)

Apparently his clutch started to slip during the Pro. I don't know what happened during the Solo Nationals if it was still causing him problem but, I heard from a buddy of his that it was slipping during the Pro in which he won STU.
Russ, my Evo broke again immediately following our Denver trip. I have intentions of staying in STU but I hate my car right now so I might be in an M3 next year. We'll see how quickly I find the problem that nobody has heard of before.

I've decided to stay in STU _because_ of nationals. I didn't get my *** handed to me as badly as I expected. With fairly small cash outlay I can get the car down around 2900 lbs (I was 3070 with a FULL tank). I still have power mods to do, better tire options, and a whole lotta practice.

Just out of curiosity, what type of diet do you have in store for the Evo? My goal for next season, although we still have 3 events left in Philly, is to drop some weight out of the car.
I drive the car everyday so AC is staying. I unforntunately rushed the gun and bought mine the day they were available so I didn't have the option of getting the car without the sunroof. I had been contemplating whether to dump the sunroof and the related parts and add a RS or MR roof, although that may not be STU legal as it would be considered a back/up date just as adding a RS diff wouldn't be legal.
I would like to install a set of 2 piece rotors at all 4 corners and a lightwieght battery. AMS just released a lightweight crossmember as well.
I have to reveiw the regs to see how far I can go though. I would love to get the car down to 3000lbs but, it'll be tough.

Nobody at Nats said a thing (competitors or the SCCA)
