Comprehensive Evo STU prep thread?
No. It's insane. I haven't done anything; stock seats, stock battery, pretty heavy wheels, stock rotors, full tank of gas, water in the IC sprayer, heavy SS exhaust, A/C. I even left the stereo and speakers in.
3076 lbs on thursday.
It's the dirty little secret of the '04 RS.
d
EDIT: I'm already set up to drop weight quickly. Obviously the fluids are free. I already have a set of very light SSR rims (15.3 lbs). I even had them at nationals, but chose not to run them. I was also running full tread 245/45/7 tires. shaved 40 series are definitely lighter. The battery is a very cheap 30 lbs. Then I could add a lighter exhaust manifold and 02 housing. My megan TBE is just about as heavy as the stocker, and lots of folks make lighter ones. Seats are pretty expensive. I wonder if it is legal to get a super light/plastic passenger seat, then ballast it up to 25 lbs with heavy rails...

Hey Jon, what happened to the car?
As for some of the stuff I see proposed, the A/C removal is illegal. You'll save about 30 lbs. by going with bucket seats. 20 lbs. with the battery and a little bit with the 02 housing. You won't save anything if only a little bit with the manifold. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the stereo and speakers must remain in the car unless that's classified under comfort and conv.
BTW, an Evo that weighs around 3000 lbs. is pretty good and about right in my estimation.

14.12.7
"Brake rotors may be replaced with any rotor of equal or larger
diameter made from a ferrous or aluminum alloy. Calipers are
unrestricted, but must mount to the original attachment points."
Rule does not restrict rotors to a single pc replacement. I also received a clarification e-mail response from Doug Gill back in 04'.

2004-2006 RS models had no radio and no speakers. The stock exhaust manifold was 15lbs and I think the O2 sensor housing was another 9lbs. They weren't what I would deem as heavy. My car weighed in at 3100lbs with coil-overs, two-piece rotors, 3/4 tank of gas, and Hankook RS-2s on MR wheels.

Curious though, SP does not allow 2-piece rotors but STX/STU does?
From the SP ruleset:
I guess that's where my original confusion came in, I thought ST rules were a step ladder to SP......
From the SP ruleset:
B. Cross-drilled and/or slotted brake rotors may be used, provided
the replacement rotors have the same dimensions as standard
rotors and are of a standard-type construction and of ferrous
metallic material. This does not permit the use of a two-piece
hat/rotor assembly unless the standard configuration is two-piece.

Exhaust mani will net 5 lbs weight loss. This is going from OEM w/heatshield to a Megan tubular mani. I tried it and to me it's not worth it for the loss of bottom end (seat of the pants feel, no actual dyno results).
Mike sold the M3 a few months ago to a road racer in the Mid West. He has been helping me setting up the car and showing me how to autox. I hope he doesn't abandon me and go to the STI camp...
Just kidding of course.

I know Neary, Davemac and I can easily do it. Not sure about Gil, definitley not Corey or Anthony.
