oil overfill, HPDE this weekend...

I just checked my oil, and the shop that changed oil last week overfilled.

the oil level is about 5/8" above the upper notch (ie about the same distance above the upper notch as is between the notches).

I don't know enough about the 4G63 to know if that is a problem. On subarus an overfill would cause the crank to "froth" the oil and the pump would cavitate; so overfilling was a big no-no.

what about with evo's?

the car doesn't burn any oil during hard street use, but I suppose it might use some at the track event this weekend.

should I just leave it as is, or drain some?

Thanks!

Drain it. It's not worth taking a chance on.

I try to keep the oil level to the max line or I usually slightly overfill the oil during a track day because the oil pools to one side or the other during high G manuvers. The last thing I need is to spin a bearing because of oil starvation. 2-3mm over the max line is what I usually follow.

Did you measure it while on level ground?

A little over is OK, but I would say 5/8" might be on the borderline. I'd drain a little off. If it's bad for the motor and causes frothing...I don't know, but erring on the side of safety can't hurt.

Drain it until its at the upper notch or at least within 1/16" of it. 5/8" would have me worried.
