Do you remember when the Ferrari's floor boards were called into question after Melbourne? McLaren is the one who called the FIA on the legality of them.
They know the data wasn't used to build the MP4-22, but there is talk of McLaren learning how to exploit the Brigdestones through the documents they received. Even that's all hearsay...

What is the FIA going to do with the $100M?
That's what I want to know.... Hopefully it goes to charity.

Yea but do you? Do I? Does anyone else other than the manufacturers themself? NO! Its usually just icing on the cake when a driver wins the drivers championship.

No doubt none of the competitors are "angles" and there is a lot of secrecy surrounding what each competitors do to their cars. But that is all part of the sport and an attempt to improve one's chances. Breaking the rules and industrial espionage, not so much. If anyone is breaking the rules they should be willing to accept the consequences ... regardless it makes for a lot of "drama" in the sport ... OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

stole?...i believe it was given to them. i don't think gifting is a crime anywhere. i think it's pretty obvious that mclaren has not used any of the data as they are more reliable than ferrari this season. why has ferrari not been penalized for illegal floor boards in the first few races of the season? had mclaren not blown the whistle ferrari would still be cheating that isn't fair to every other team who had to make the changes.

This whole deal still smells a little fishy to me. I'm not talking about the verdict, either, I'm talking about the whole manner in which this technical paper was discovered. Theft or setup? I'm still undecided.

Nonetheless, Mclaren was still faster than Ferrari at the beginning of the season, even without the "technical papers," and IMO, this is just an attempt by Ferrari to claim the WCC (Note: Ferrari said it had no problem being handed the WCC in the courts) by whatever means necessary.

Lets not even bring up the multitude of examples where the FIA ruling has favored Ferrari in some way when they were losing the WCC, and pulled some stunt that should have caused Ferrari to incur large fines or penalties, where only slaps on the wrist were given. I'm not just talking about Shumi's stunt last year either (Ferrari crying about expanding Michelin tires and winning even though there was no FIA rule against it, Ferrari getting off the hook for their illegal barge boards, etc.), this FIA/Ferrari marriage has gone on for YEARS. Let's not forget, also, that this isn't the first time another team has acquired some other team's technical spec.

The person whom I'm saddest for in this entire side-show is Lewis H. If he does wind up capping this Cinderella season with a WDC crown, it will forever be debated and labeled with an asterisk.

receiving stolen goods (in this case techinical information) is a crime. in this case it's called industiral espionage, and we see many companies throughout the world get nailed for it all the time.

I heard the same thing...
FA is a bit#$ for ratting out his own team no matter how unhappy he is with them.

What about Alonso’s part in all this?

This is the most interesting aspect of the story for me. On one level I think Alonso, having been shown to have been involved with the illicit material, is lucky to keep his drivers’ championship points.
What condemned McLaren was the email traffic between him and de la Rosa (as well as a report from the Italian communication police regarding the volume and timing of email, phone and text traffic between Stepney and Coughlan).
The $100 million question all week has been, “How did the emails come to the FIA’s attention?”
Dennis has now confirmed that once he learned of the emails, from Alonso on the morning of the Hungarian GP, he himself told Mosley about them, because he did not want it to come from anyone else.
But what was Alonso trying to achieve by confronting Ron with the emails on that Sunday morning?
Apparently Dennis explained to the WMSC that Alonso had some demands, which are not hard to imagine, but Dennis refused to satisfy them. When this all comes out next week, it will probably look quite bad for Alonso.
I think Ron comes out of it quite well, albeit that it shows he did not have the control over his team on which he prided himself.
He is determined to win the drivers’ championship and all the signs are that despite Alonso’s behaviour he will be given an equal chance to win the title, like Lewis.
McLaren has a precedent here; in 1989 Dennis and Alain Prost fell out, but Prost was still given a winning car and beat his team-mate Ayrton Senna to the title before leaving for Ferrari the next year. Not many teams would behave like that.
Crucially, history will show that Alonso’s meeting with Dennis came after the qualifying episode in Hungary, where first Lewis disobeyed team orders and then Alonso blocked him at the end of the session and was penalised.
That brought things to a head between Alonso and Dennis.
Alonso’s relationship with the team has now totally broken down and it is impossible to imagine him driving a McLaren next year.
He may move back to Renault, or propose some sort of mega-deal to Toyota. BMW seems closed off and although certain top men at Ferrari would like to hire him to replace Massa, Todt is on the record as saying he will never drive a Ferrari after he snubbed Todt and signed up with Renault and Briatore in 2001.

Crazy stuff. Like the pats here in new england, well sorta. lol

I am one of the crazy fans who actually care about the constructors title as well as the drivers. Oh well at least they are at my favorite track this weekend, hamilton just needs to step it up big time.
