2008 Street Mod Discussion
FWIW, I've been using ARP extended studs front/rear for about 2 years now and have 25mm spacers up front. I love having them even on the rear, because changing wheels is so quick and smooth. I always had trouble with the stockers until eventually stripping a few.
Thanks guys for the props!
It was a great weekend of racing! You couldn't have asked for better weather or closer competition. There was no BSP class, so the Millers bumped up in to SM. Aaron, Andy and myself exchanged the top 3 SM spots so many times throughout the weekend I can't even count! I found out later that if I had not improved on my last run, Aaron, Andy and I would have ALL gotten into the Super Challenge, as we were less that 0.15 seconds apart after 12 runs each!!
I had been talking with folks all weekend long about how best to drive the back half of the course. I knew what I wanted to do, but every time I got there - I couldn't make the car do it! Looking at the DL1 logs over a couple beers Saturday night showed me a couple places some time could be made up. On my last run I finally put it all together and put the car where it was supposed to be. Hey, even a blind mouse will find the cheese sooner or later!!
Several of us have been talking about how great ProSolo is. I LOVE it. I just wish there were more of them that didn't require driving 12 hours. . . so we came up with this solution:
There should be an East Coast ProSolo Tour, as well as a West Coast ProSolo Tour. (some motocross groups already do this) there would be 8-12 races on each side of the Mississippi. You can only run 1 series (that is, you only accrue points for one series). You get series points based on your finishing position in your class, as well as bonus points for ranking high in the "PAX" index.
The East and West would crown their series champion in each class at year's end based on your points from your top 4 finishes. Then, the top 5-10 points leaders in each class on each coast would be invited to the National ProSolo Championship brought to you by PINKS. The National Championship would be a televised spectator event produced similar to an episode of Pinks All Out. It would be a joint venture between Pinks and SCCA. . .
With how fast the Pros fill up, I don't think we would have a problem with attendance if we could double the number of them each year. . .
As for the Pinks idea, if you've been to a Pinks All Out race lately, you may see why I brough up this idea. There are more spectators, more vendors, and more $$$ at one of these events than any NHRA, IDRA, NOPI event I've been to . . . and the SCCA sure could use a healthy dose of money and promotion . . .

i, too, am addicted to the format! to be frank, i wouldn't mind if *all* events were pros... mind you, we are blessed up here in the northwest with a big patch of pavement to work with, so having 30-40 second sides make it a lot of fun.
our region already runs a "regional" prosolo series - usually 3 events spaced out over the course of 3 months, at packwood. conveniently placed a weekend before el toro, salt lake city and packwood pros.
definitely like the idea of an east/west coast series. make it happen

God, I wish there was a way to do more ProSolos. I had to go all the way out to San Diego (half the country almost) and then didn't get to run due to to work. The only other feasible one is Wendover at 700 miles away or so, but now my "crew" (toter home) has decided to do other events instead of that one, so that's it for me for the year. I do look forward to moving back to the East Coast so that I can do way more events like this.
I think it has to do with a combination of the TRE rear diff and the shock settings. . .
I had it SO bad on one of my runs - I came through the finish a little sideways with a little bit of bounce in the rear end. . . I straightened the wheel and went to hit the brake but missed it and hit the clutch . . . the car felt like it pitched almost 90* sideways and I think the rear end bounced about 6" off the ground . . .
That was a scary moment heading out of control toward the crowd of people. . . I finally got my foot on the brake and got it straightened out. I wish someone had caught it on video so I could see if it looked as bad as it felt . . .
The other painful thing was watching Andy clip or wobble the cones on the way out through the lane change on almost every run...

i have that, they are a ***** to fit front but fit rear well, i needed about 13mm of spacer in the front but fender rubbing was terrible so i pulled my fenders out about 10 mm and it works well now
