If you think that's a lot of reading, you should set a weekend aside to read the "Street Modifed Build" thread!!!!

No one has actually fully prepped a SM car yet, so no one knows how fast the class can really go. It's more of a do what you have to to win type of class.

I guess this'll be my new home for a bit. I competed in my first auto-x event last sunday with the new evo. ( i was running STS until my car got stolen ) Anyhoo - my best time was on my last run ( 54.5xx) i was in the 55's most of the day so this run was a little pick-me-up. I got 6th in class ( out of 7 - double ) but i had a lot of fun. We got in 10 runs and i know that i need to tweak my set up.

Here's my deal - i ran BSP but my mods really just include JIC coilovers, a K&N drop-in, and a JDM bumper. First off - should i continue to run this class or try my luck in STU ? I'm running stock tires and wheels.

Here is my driver's side view of my coilover

..... and here's my passenger side

If i'm right - i think i currently have positive camber, right ? If so, i know i need to turn it into negative. i need to raise my ride height too, i was rubbing all over the course.

I'm really looking forward to running most of the events this year. Looking forward to hearing from everyone. Thanks and good luck to all.

Chris

You can't tell what camber you have by looking at your camber plates. You could be at Zero, or you could be at -2.

You need to take it somewhere and have an alignment done. Put the camber bolts on the more negative setting, then use the plates to adjust the camber to exactly where you want it.

Where were you rubbing on the car? I've never heard of the stock wheels and tires rubbing and I've had my cars pretty low!

^ hey bud PM me Ill help you get your issues sorted out...
I autocross out here also I just wasnt there last week (slipping clutch sucks)
You really need to get an alignment.
in our region it doesnt matter where you are(class wise)... One of the fastest guys each week is a Astock Evo.
Please send some info or post up tire/wheel specs.
What are the plans with the car? Are you planning on modding it further? ie; boost controller+TBE+flash? if so I say get accustomed to your competition to BSP.
Do you also want the ability to run r-dots down the road? stay in BSP as well.
Its weird to hear that you are rubbing.. you must either have some big rubber or you are lowered way to much and that could be affecting the way the car handles as well.
Let us know some more info, and congratulations on the new car and first ax in it!

I rolled my fenders to accomodate 285 Hoosiers, but I don't think I needed to at my ride height (lowered only about 3/4"), whereas with the way your car is slammed you would probably need it.

I've run with -2.5 to -3.5 front camber, and have plenty of fender clearance either way. But again, my front fenders are rolled *and* pulled out a little. It's easy to do with the aluminum.

As for the rears, they seem to fit fine with just rolling (no fender pulling), at about -1.25 camber.

The one problem I have had (and Mark had it too, if I recall), was that at full steering lock and parking lot speeds (no suspension activity), the outside back corner of the inside tire rubs on the fender liner a little. But this isn't a problem at speed, since that side of the suspension is extended. The tire did pry loose the plastic body side molding, which wraps into the fender wheel and attaches there. I had to reattach it with a couple of sheet-metal screws and duct tape. No big deal.

My biggest problem with the fatness of the Hoosiers is that I can't use springs longer than about 7" with the bottom suspension bolt set to the max camber position. The tire rubs on the 10" springs I tried, forcing me to either use a spacer or back off to the min camber position. (These are 3.5" outer diameter springs.)

I noticed that water injection is legal for SP.

"G. Intake water injection systems are allowed."

I am assuming that methanol injection is not allowed?

Currently Im running 275/40s on stock wheels, and have noticed that at full lock my tires will actually rub through the liner and has hit a seam on the body, which I had to massage with a BFH to prevent cutting. I was wondering if anyone else is running into this, or if there might be a problem I am unaware of. I do run a very small spacer that allowed the tires to clear my stock suspension, and have recently added coilovers though it appears I will still need the spacers. anyone experience this?

massaging body seams is not SP legal. Just don't turn to full lock.

I'll remember to straighten it if I ever win nationally. which isnt likely. ever. cause Im slow.

PS-it tends to be my co-driver(aka little brother) who has cut the tires.
PPS-I also know that if the car is so out of control, that you are at full lock, things are FUBAR anyways

You may need a wider rim to reduce the sidewall deflection. I haven't heard of this being a problem with people running 9in or wider rims.

One thing that bothers/confuses me is the fact that it is only hitting on the passenger front. My street tires will rub a little (245/45 on stock wheels) as well, but not as bad. So far Im taking it as "one of those things" since I have seen no other side effect.
