Thank you for the correction. I am not as turbo savvy as I should be, though I recognize most of the mitsu built ones.

Mitsu switched to Garrett TR30R on their WRC car when they hired the European dude (I forget his name, I believe he previously ran one of the French WRC programs) to run their WRC program a few years ago. They had been using Mitsu turbos up to that point due to pride but knew they were a liability, performance-wise.

You wouldn't want a WRC-spec compressor wheel on your street car. They have very little mapwidth, not a lot of ultimate flow capability, and low-ish efficiency at low pressure ratios. This is because the wheels are intended to be used with (and are therefore designed for) the inlet restrictor. They shine at very high pressure ratios, which is what you get when you add the inlet restrictor.

The TR30R turbine, on the other hand, would be very nice on a street car, better overall than the plain-jane GT30R wheel...

'so if i am putting everything together correctly you are suggesting that this turbo might not be the turbo that was on the 8/9 for the purpose of creating the stock timing maps?

A TR30R would be built to your spec. The WRC spec TR30R is only one of hundreds of configurations that the turbo can be used for. Gale Banks used TR30Rs on both of his Diesel race trucks, one a road race Duramax and one a drag race duramax. Both the Audi and Peugeot diesel LMP cars use TR30Rs, the AER 2 liters use the TR30R, all with different restrictors. Its a versatile turbo and if you were willing to pay the money, it would be configured to exactly what you needed it for (much like anything in motorsports)

Well, I had a good day, I went to see a guy who had a turbo from a 2001 Ford Focus WRC car.... Then bought it!

Spec as follows

Garrett TR30R

Compressor housing:
.60 A/R
60mm inlet
50mm outlet

Compressor wheel:
45.5mm Inducer
69.4mm Exducer

Turbine housing:
.57 A/R
50mm V-band inlet
60mm V-band outlet

Turbine wheel:
59.3mm
52.2mm

I lost the formula to work out trim, has anyone got it, or can tell me what these work out at?

It still has the FIA 34mm restrictor, but that can get bored out and release the full potential of this thing! Cool points to notice include:

-It has a cast stainles turbine housing
-The compressor wheel is CNC machined!!!!!!
-This is the same turbo used on the Audi R8 Le mans cars

The goodies

The turbo is part stripped as it was used for development and dyno testing. I'll get it

reassembled and balanced and then figure what to build to put it in!

The same guy had this manifold off the same 2001 Fucus WRC, but I couldn't afford it, and it needs modification to fit on a 20v!!!! But it is ****, and it all made of Inconel. Note the sensor lugs on all of the runners.

I may have it anyway and see what I can figure with it.
