2012 STU Discussion
Fasteners, especially ones that wear can be replaced with something more reliable. Especially when safety is a concern and weight is not reduced
The rulebook just can't cover for every part. If it has to be written the hairspray on the inner diameter would be illegal, spring on the dipstick, zipties, ducttape, aluminum lugnuts would be illegal
Reliable != higher performance

Funny.. and I think this says something about me..
my first reaction to this was:
"On noes! Are my lug nuts illegal?"
(And in case anyone else reading this is like me.. the answer is no, not illegal - lug nuts are open per 13.4.
PHEW!

Yesterday I replaced the rear diff and mustache bar bushings with energy suspension bushings and did the rear diff restack. I used the OEM DiaQueen LSD fluid an I am happy to say that there is zero chatter (or any other noises) from the diff and only a very faint whine from the bushings. I can't wait to test it out at autox!
Meanwhile I'm still waiting for my Bilstein/Swifts to come in and considering brake options. What pads/rotors have you guys had the best success with? This is a street/autox car. I want zero noise and minimal dust. For pads I'm looking at EBC reds or Racing Brake ET500's. I've heard a lot of good things about the Ferodo DS2500's but $320 for all 4 pads seems a little out of my budget. For rotors I was reading up on the RotorPros blanks (the centric premium ones), Girodisk blanks, or just keeping the stock brembos.

Has anyone posted dyno results of their STU-legal tune/setup? hopefully on 93oct, Mustang dyno. hoping to get some baseline. Thanks
BTW does anyone have an idea how much spring rate the off-the-shelf KW v3 can handle?

If you go back to the original STU thread there is some stuff there. McCall had 302 whp on a Mustang. I also posted some stuff in my build thread in this forum - 290 whp on a Mustang in January. In my case a normal Evo is 215-220 whp on that dyno.

What people don't realize was how busy Geoff was over the weekend. Not only did he design and set up the courses, he also arranged the welcome party food truck, and cooked the food for 200 people. He was also co-chair of the event, so that made his win even more impressive.
Thanks to the NW evo guys for the hospitality, you guys put on a great event.

Congrats Geoff on the STU win and for paxing in the top 3! Thanks for the co-drive, the Taco Time VIII felt great.

congrats Geoff, it was super fun lining up against you last weekend. And way to bust your butt helping run the PRO.. In addition to all the hard work Rick mentioned above, Geoff also arrived two days prior to the event and was pushing cones around first thing Friday morning... a thankless task no less.
From a personal perspective I wish I could have made the same level of improvements over the weekend that my competition did but I was extremely ecstatic to see Geoff got 3rd overall pax, ahead of some serious contenders

Being the champagne fodder after winning the "draw your name out of a hat" challenge round was an entertaining experience as well, lol.
Congrats on your setup. looks like I need to get some more STU mods done. I'm still on the fence if I would come and be an additional trophy fodder at the championships. Please keep the discussion and the blogging going so I can learn more

and congrats to the winners out there. dont bump up our pax too much
