2012 STU Discussion
John - I have a hotel now for Sunday to Thursday, although I'm not sure how big the room is. I believe it's just a king but I have an air mattress. Shoot me a PM if you are interested, it took me about 2 weeks to decide on a hotel haha.

Pick the Winners is up:

Sooo.. did we buy the wrong car? Top 3 spots are STi! Or are they just amazing drivers? Or are the voters misinformed?

One other thing is, IIRC, there aren't any former champions in the class, so there is no Strano/Braun/etc to vote for.
I'll let you know - I think I have something lined up but have to check.
Hopefully this is the year that the STi gets back on top, it's been a while.
Rob is the cool kid in school, so he gets all the votes...and of course he's fast as well, as long as he doesn't get into cone troubles. The two guys who should be at the top are John Hale and Geoff Clark (last year's winner), but neither can make it this year. So this championship is going to be won by the best of the rest. Rob's co-driver Jon Pomrenke is fast and can lay down fast runs.
My vote went to Shane actually. As long as there aren't any walloms, look for him to really lay it down out there. We've been pretty back and forth all year, my best performance against him, but I think this could be his year.
As for Evo drivers, Sean Grubb and Mark Smith have been consistently quick. Luke Oxner was fast in Blytheville, even on Hankooks. Josh Salvage gave Geoff a run for his money out in San Diego. John Laughlin was quick in Toledo against Corey and we know that the old Ranveck car is quick.
I predict that the top 10 will all be within a second of each other. You heard it here first. A lot of guys in the mix and similar performance levels. It all depends on who brings their A game.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone (even STi drivers
.) I don't know any of the east coast STU folks..-'chono'
Oh, my bad. Didn't mean to actually answer your question in a serious fashion. How about this instead...
Evo's are evil, you're all going down! Feel the power of the boxer bishes!
Better? Sorry, I don't trash talk very well.
I'll work on that before I roll up into grid.

Evo's are not evil! We are not going down!
And.. 2.0L > 2.5L because of, um, science!
Yeah - I'm not much for trash talking either. I do enjoy *reading* trash talking though.

Oh and Subarus are ugly. And it's sort of annoying to change spark plugs on them.
What boxster? I said boxer, can't you read? Is that why they shortened it to Evo because Evolution was too big of a word for you kids?
Spark plugs aren't that hard, but definitely easier than those clutch jobs that Doug mentions.
And Doug, the only way I win is if everyone else cones...which "could" happen I guess. All I know is that it's going to be close. Of course this should help a little bit. It's on!

Hey Guys,
From a west coast perspective, Sean and Josh were really fast right out of the box, and I bet Tristian in his M3 will be top 10 in the slalom biased course. Jake Deihl can throw in a fast day too. Although I think my codriver will do very well again, his rally Evo 7 was why I bought mine in '03. I hope to be back up to speed next year. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

GOOD LUCK to all those at nationals, obviously better luck to those piloting evos.
and in the meantime... mostly a GREAT STU build, minus a couple parts that would need changed for STU legality.

Hey, everyone! I was placed in STU at a recent event based on what I have on my car (catback and short shifter) and I had a few questions...
I read that you're allowed to change parts up to the throttle body (like an intake), but does that include the intercooler and pipes? Or would that be considered parts that affect boost?
I'd like to stay in STU until it's time for a new clutch, then I'll see what I want to do from there. Thanks in advance!
