In other news, I'm looking at a potential tow vehicle tomorrow... If I can figure something out I plan to make the trek to nationals.

Brian, I also don't want to drive 15hrs in an Evo.

Also, I haven't heard this in a week or so (it didn't do it during the drive out/back or over the weekend, and never before last week) but my creaking ship noise came back today:

We now make up ~1/2 of the entry pool:
http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...93083D131E2CCA

Evo - 10
M3 - 2
Sti - 10

You east coasters / midwesterners have no excuses. Nationals is in your back yard. Sign up!

This has nothing to do with Nationals but it was a good day for STU Evo's at the Pan Am Region event yesterday. Vortico's STU Evo IX took first place in street tires and first place overall in PAX and my STU Evo VIII took first place in the Rookies class. In our region we only use the Novice, Tires, and Pro classes.

You could always try borrowing/renting one from a local autocrosser or track day person. I have thought about it, just not totally sure it's worth the hassle. I mean, it's "only" 18 hours for me, and spread over two days I don't think it will be that bad.

Just reg'd for the Finale - it's now open to two-eventers. First Finale for me.

Unfortunately, the autocrossers I know are planning to trailer their own cars. One of my friends would donate his trailer but then he wants to drive my car in the Pro in addition to the tour, which I wasn't planning to be there for...

Oh well, I'm getting closer:

[x] Acquire tow vehicle
[x] Register for championships
[ ] Secure trailer
[ ] Secure lodging (I don't think I will sleep well in a parking lot)

Well you are ahead of me. I am now registered but that is about it. Definitely have to look into that whole hotel thing.

Sounds that may be spring binding noises. You may want to look at coilover thrust bearings to avoid the bind.

I don't compete STU any more but from the video it seems like your EVO may be understeering a little. Every driver prefers different handling cars so perhaps it is perfect for you.

Meant to post this earlier, but yeah... mine has been doing this lately too. I have it as an offseason todo item:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/8405970-post22.html

I'm not sure the sound is totally the same as mine, but it's similar conditions - low speed stuff like pulling out of the driveway, pulling into a parking spot, etc.

You should have seen it before! lol. It still understeers a little bit, I think it is mainly from the tires (v12 evos), but it is way better then when I first got it. However, I did the rear diff restack and bushings and that helped at lot, especially with corner exit. I have the Bilstein HD's and Swift Spec-R's going on very soon, I just talked to Neil at Tire Rack and it look like by Bilstein HD's are finally about to ship after a 3 month wait. Once I get the struts/springs on I will decide on sway bars.

I didn't want to come across really harsh but it looked like "plow city" to me. You could do adjustable sway bars before you do shocks and springs ... just a thought.

I am still new to this sport and I am deffinitly new to suspension setups so I appreciate any and all advice. I already have the Spec-R springs in my garage and the Bilstein's should be shipping sometime this week so its too late to do the sways before the stuts/springs. I will deffinitly be considering sway bars as you are correct it is still understeering. I had read good things from smike on the swift non adjustable bars in conjunction with their springs. Have you guys ever used those or would you recommend an adjustable one over them? Also how much do the tires play into under/oversteer? In other words, should I still be able to get my car setup to oversteer properly with my current tires (Hankook Ventus v12 evos)?

Any tire can be made to over or understeer. You just need the right combination of spring, swaybar, ride height and tire pressure combination. If you don't get the springs and shock on in time before the next event. Try increasing the rear tire pressure greatly to get the car to rotate. I would recommend an adjustable rear sway ...

Pick the Winners is up:

Sooo.. did we buy the wrong car? Top 3 spots are STi! Or are they just amazing drivers? Or are the voters misinformed?

At least SportsCar expects an Evo to win.

still seems that with the gearing differences in the chassis, it may come down to course design helping/hurting the EVO or STi.

Good luck to all, my local vote has to go to Mr. Laughlin, remember the car knows how to do it, so close your eyes and let it happen.
