I feel quite certain that the changes made to not only Caterham but also the others doing same, which U mention, is not based upon: "Gee, lets make an ugly car so we can win". Rather, there is some technical basis for the design...wind tunnel, fluid dynamics simulations, physical models and the like that have suggested the current design will outperform another. Since "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", a car that U might feel is beautiful may be a dog to another...so it is difficult to make the statement that only UR beautiful cars have historically gone faster than other designs. That said, if you do have such skills, I would suggest that U leave UR current employ and call Adrian Newey up for a position...If that doesn't work out, I am sure there R other teams who need UR services.

Wow Ken, I can see you put a lot of effort into your post. Glad to see that you seem to be championing the ugly car syndrome. Nice comment about me leaving my job to replace Adrian. I might do that. I have a mean pencil and can make the greatest stickmen you ever saw. And, as I said, ugly is as ugly does. You know fully well that virtually all the winning car designs in the past have had a certain cache about them. Don't give me that fluid dynamics, wind tunnel, physical modes crap. These things have nothing to do with the Caterham design. It is entirely prefaced on the fact that the FIA has a dictum that there be a lower front crash protection, hence the "bump".

I like a good tussle with people if they are honest. When I joined the forum and started posting here, it seems like you used the F1 thread as your own personal fiefdom. I had the audacity to counter some of the things you have said, notably that Kimi was not going to Williams regardless of your "blogs". I now hit the ball into your court and suggest that you quit what you do and go to work for Caterham to address that ugly wart they have on their nosepiece...

I obviously could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that the stepped transition is the best aero solution to the lower front section mandate, but to me it looks like they must have chosen that design as their best solution to meeting the rule, while still being able to maintain a maximum angle from the wheel hub to the upper suspension connecting points on the chassis. Not sure why that would be important to them though. Maybe a suspension guy can chime in on why that would be beneficial?

the step is not really a step, just two little hump to cover the upper arm mounting point. they probably figured the aero over that part is not as important as the optimized location of the suspension arm. i wouldn't dismiss that design yet until we see it in action.

"... I had the audacity..." Yeah U got a lot of that, for sure

2012 McLaren and Red Bull: Rear exhausts

This seems to B a new wrinkle: "The exhaust outlets will be at the lower end of the range specified in the new rules, blowing across the bottom profile of the rear wing. But there is a development plan, apparently, to move to what McLaren and Red Bull is [are] believed to be doing, which is to exit the exhausts high up, to blow across the top profile." Wouldn't these wings B receiving a lot of heat?...if so, then I assume they have taken measures to minimize ignition.

Yes, and that is precisely why they signed him...to revive the Senna-Williams connection...of course, the big $$ he brings as well was an additional incentive, to say the least!

Sutil: What not to do as an F1 driver

He was found guilty (suspended sentence and fine) for cutting a gash in the neck of Eric Lux of Renault at a bar (http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...VeQ_story.html) ...this may mean that Sutil's F1 days R over...need a passport/visa to enter countries...convicted felons may be denied...but what is interesting here is...what the hell did Lux say to Sutil or Sutil to Lux to get this going?...saw somewhere that Lux was standing over Sutil who was seated and then grabbed Sutil's arm, who then pushed back into Lux's neck with the other arm holding a champagne glass...either Sutil said something nasty to Lux causing him to stand over threateningly or Lux said same to Sutil initiating the shove...in short, it is unclear who drew "First Blood"...what is clear, Sutil is paying dearly for this incident while Lux can say at a party, "Yeah I got this scar while trying to save somebody" or whatever....yes, yes I NO ...somewhat.

Thank you McLaren, she looks pretty

Although if those stepped noses end up being faster, all will follow suit ...
