well, the race has officially been postponed due to the wild fires! we saw it coming since the fire started so we weren't caught off guard.
more time to fine tune the car though!

special thanks to APR performance for providing us this nice GTC-300 wing 67" wide with the 2" risers!

and with some time before they reschedule the race, we will be reworking the front splitter and making an undertray/rear diffuser.

I've yet to meet one inconsiderate person at the Pikes Peak race and in fact, every competitor I've raced with/against has been more than willing to go the extra mile to make sure every fellow competitor's car is in good condition and ready to rock come race day. Its a very small community and we truly try to take care of everyone so that all get to go home safely at the end of the week. At the end of the day, the race is often more about you vs. the mountain than it is you vs. the other drivers as strange as that sounds.
Enjoy the fact that you get some extra time to dial in the car. I'm going to spend it making my car look pretty.
See you guys soon I hope!Dave
I don't have a clue if this was directed at me or not, but either way...very sporting of you.
I don't know in what capacity you're involved with this project, but a true competitor always wants to beat someone else straight-up at their best, not win because someone else struggled with their machinery or DNF'd. Yes, at the end of the day, a win is a win and that's the goal, but IMO a hard fought victory is just that much sweeter.

The point Todd was trying to make is that we were just at a state of readiness. Prepared to take on the massive challenge that is this event. Just like other sports, competitions, etc. Some competitors are more prepared than others. Nothing wrong with that, just a fact of life.
I've already figured out myself that as you stated, this battle will be with the mountain itself, not the other competitors.
We look forward to seeing everyone there, happy and SAFE. Yourself included! Good luck on your final projects for the car
Absolutely - but going that extra step and stating that he hopes the event goes on as scheduled because you want other teams to come unprepared is where I think it crossed the line. If you want to think that in private, do so by all means, but by posting that up I think it showed nothing but arrogance and hubris.
Consider the following scenario - should I hope that they skip all the practice days and just hold the race because that that's fewer chances for the forest to catch fire? Absolutely not even though it would give any veteran competitors an advantage because they've seen the road more times. I want to see everyone as prepared as possible. Everyone's getting equal time out of this whole mess and everyone (myself included) wanted the event to go on as scheduled but the reality of the situation on the ground in Colorado Springs dictated otherwise.
I'm a firm believer (as I'm sure you are too) that as drivers we let our results do the talking, not posts on an interwebz board.

Dave
That's a good thing!

Sounds good, hopefully they can get that fire out, the whole region gets some rain, and we can get our racing on.

so to my point, they were putting her engine in just 3 days ago... which as anyone who has ever built a race car knows, it never works perfect the first time out. i felt we as a shop put together an outstanding car, ready to race with the bugs worked out. that is DEFINATELY part of race, coming prepared, and i know they are not.
Damn drama - building race cars is stressful enough without any extra factors!
Unless they've done some monster big money changes, it would be hard to see how that car could be an overall contender on paper. You wouldn't know it from reading all the post race info, but that car was a full minute off the pace of the leading car (Verdier)...and a minute in PP speak is an eternity. Now that they've combined the classes (2wd & AWD), I firmly believe that Millen is the favorite, with Robb Holland as a likely 2nd if he brings enough of a car. There's no replacement for seat time and both those guys have a ton of it (though not at PP in Robb's case).

Sorry Dave. Definitely not directed towards you. Looking forward to seeing you and all the other competitors out there for the rescheduled date. I'm hoping that everybody's schedule allows them to make it out.
