2013 STU Discussion!
LOL you guys crack me up. You really think a C5 is going to dominate the class? Come on. Have you ever driven any high HP RWD car on street tires in an autocross environment? Hello drift fest!
The reason heavier HP RWD cars (like the vette) do so well in Stock and SP has to do with one thing. R-compound tires. These cars will turn great with street tires. No doubt. But try to put the power down. Or put the power down AND turn. Good luck.

I have 3 opinions.
1) AS (at nats this year) is not as fast as they could be.
B)putting street tires on a car that is setup for R tires is going to be slower.
III) you can change springs/swaybars/bushings/diffs/wheels without limit in STU to address the short comings of an AS c5 on streets.
so yes, I do think a C5 in STU trim is going to dominate an STU evo on 245's.
That said, my opinion is biased. I want the STU guys to come to ASP.
A gussied-up $700 240 with significantly compromised cross weights kicked it's *** at Nationals.

[Brag] I got to drive Panda last weekend...it really makes me stop and consider why I'm messing around with the more limited prep classes. [/Brag]

Godzilla itself is still in development. Talking with Eric theres not much big stuff left to do on the car but he keeps coming up with new details like the custom hubs the car just got that reduce front track by 1" per side.
Its also driven by Eric who is a good driver and can throw down some good times, but a top level driver has shown a gap of 1sec/60sec course on him. Here's results of Ryan Otis co-driving with Eric.

Now add in the fact that Eric coned away his best runs both days at Nats, "if" they were clean that's a second place finish. Add in that 2 sec of a top level driver, and it could have been the champion.
Yes, this is all bench racing but the car is dangerous on courses with digs or transitions.

both Tasha and Ron co-drive with them last weekend, them and that car (and the DS WRX) on Kumho wets was pretty impressive!

2 Eric Hyman OPAX 66.479
3 Charly Spyksma OPAX 68.776
4 Karl Coleman OPAX 69.211
5 Tasha Mikko NSPAXL 69.329
6 Joe Goeke OPAX 69.777
7 Geoff Clark TOPM 69.922
8 Doug Mikko NS5 70.107
9 Geoff Clark NS5 70.299
10 Laurie Hyman NSPAXL 70.775
They don't call SM "spend money" class for nothing. I'm not sure I've ever seen an SM car build to the limit of the rules. They are built to the limit of the owner's wallet. On an equal budget, I would take a CT9A over the GTR... because I could bring 2 spare cars
. My build for example, does not even have all the modifications allowed in ASP. There are SM specific modifications, but I have to prioritize based on what I think will have the most impact. Then there's making it all work together.
That's one of the great things about SM. I can run against the same guys year after year, and I know that everyone is changing (hopefully improving) their setups. The GTR has leapfrogged the curve on some fronts, but I would not count out other platforms.
</subtle plug to give me money to find out

There is a whole lotta shoulda woulda coulda to go around.

ah, but you only need to put power down if you slow down. where do you think the main difference is between an ASP evo and an STU evo? More lateral grip is 5 sec (but really more like 7 sec if you don't count cones) faster at nats this year. yes we also have a power advantage so it's not a clear comparison, but our lateral grip relative to stu lateral grip is a bigger impact time wise than STU power relative to ASP power.

Like I said earlier, I would be more concerned about some of the other additions.
Did Geoff or Josh post videos of their west course runs?
I was able to drive the Berry Evo this past weekend. Fun. Different than what I'm used to.
Would be interesting to see video of the top west course times.
