Letter 12224 against the proposal here. And I pointed out the same about national numbers... Also I pointed out that STU is healthy with multiple generations of STis, EVOs and M3s in the mix... and that the focus should be on a class that has LESS participants, and a SPEC Car as the sole chassis, or a class with 2 spec cars.. *cough* STC STS *cough*. They meet this Wednesday...
Sorry to see you leaving STU Chris! IF you decide to part out any of it... I have some items I'd want...

We in STU really should have someone volunteer to be on the STAC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that there are any STU competitors helping the STAC.
I just wrote / submitted my letter.

"The
committee believes this will provide a much wider variety of competitive options and encourage a renewed interest in
the class."
But STS and STC, which have been declining worse than STU (which actually had a pretty good 2013), don't need a wider variety of competitive options? This does not make any sort of sense to me. Standards are being applied to STU ("declining interest", "dual purpose vehicle", for instance) that are not being applied to other classes.
I guess the only option left is lobbying the BOD.

Biggest concern is racing in the dry. LOL
I'd put the 350Z on that list. They should be able to fit 285s front and rear. If they can win (STR) on 255s then they should be quite good on the 285s.
Rumors of getting more tire for the AWD cars in STU abound.. but I haven't seen anything in writing; and I don't imagine that it's going to be more than an additional 10mm.

yeah, it definitely looks like they are all about shaking this class up some more, the "i despise AWD" seems quite strong... since again the class is NOT the issue in the ST* ranks.
I haven't heard those rumors but I do know a previous Fastrack (I believe the same issue which proposed the class shakeup) declined a proposal to move to 255's for AWD cars.
I wrote some letters before about the 245 limit to AWD cars and it got denied LOL…It really hurts heavier models like the Evo X and newer STIs.
I really want to see a variety of cars in STU, but some of these are questionable:
The Corvette (1997-2004) (non-Z06)???
LS1 –350 HP @ 5,200 rpm; 360 ft lb @ 4,000 rpm
About 3214 lbs 50-50 weight distribution
Some STU Mods will bring the weight down under 3k maybe, and some mods will add what?~400hp plus?
Even on street tires these cars should be in a different class. I don’t even know if a wider tire on STU will help enough to level the field…

Naw, the gearing is too tall for AX to use it's power. Oh, and it can't put power down because it has too much power. But the best reason to add it to STU is because you can put full-race seats in it, making it a really fun street car!
So I wouldn't build one if I were you Jake.

I still don't understand why there is so much effort being put into making a car that clearly no body cares about for autox (C5 non-z06) competitive. AStock is a total flop, so now they're going to kill STU with it? Other than at a pro launch, I can't see a single aspect of an evo that can keep up with a vette on larger tires. The only course dependency I see is by how much the c5 beats you guys by. on a slower course you might be close. On any course where you hit the rev limiter in 2nd will get killed.
shall we dig up the 'what is needed to convert from STU to ASP" thread? you guys would at least have a shot there and the cars are unbelievably fun at SP prep level.

This sucks! I just spent all year trying to get a car prepared to be competitive in STU. ($5000 coilovers, $1000 wheels, $700 tires, bars, custom springs etc etc.) Note that many of these modifications are different than what I would have done "naturally" or assuming I had no class in autox.
Welding a stupid 100 cell into my test pipe = (
Taking a day off work and spending cash to drive to Buschur and get a dyno tune without a boost controller to make a measly 295 awhp.
Might as well have given the E36 guys an allowance to run the S54 motor with a supercharger.
This is bu11$h1t
Sorry mods just really upset about this!

And now I really regret not going to nationals this year.
Yeah.. I'm out. I don't have the budget for SP.
I'll shelve the car and hope that someone proves me wrong with an Evo in STU.
Next year I'll just run locally. Maybe catch a codrive (not in STU!) at one of the tours or pros.
I wonder what will happen to turn out in STU next year? Usually a reorg of classes produces a large influx of cars while folks are figuring out which platform will be best. And then, usually, one rises to the top and produces a spec class. But in this case, with the base C5 being the obvious choice, I wonder what the turnout will be. What enthusiast wants to build a non-Z06 race car? Guess we'll find out in a few months.
