2013 STU Discussion!
One other thing to be wary of is that the surface is different between the T&T course and the East/West courses. I know people who set their car up on/for the T&T course and it completely screwed them for the real courses. They un-did a lot of their setup tweaks and that setup worked better...

if you haven't figured out your setup before you show up, you're not going to fix it on the practice course.
I'm looking for some Auto-X setup help from you STU guys. Ive got an 03 VIII with the following mods:
Power - I'm self tuned but looking at similarly modded Evo's I should be in the 290-320 whp area. I have BC272s and a JMFab manifold waiting go on as well.
Suspension - MR Bilsteins, GTWorx springs, Tein front camber plates
Wheels/Tires - 17x9 FN01R-C wheels wrapped in 255/40/17 Dunlop ZIIs
Brakes - Have Stoptech rotors waiting to go on. Probably buying Girodisc S/S pads for F/R.
I've only got one event on my ZIIs but I can't get this pig to turn. I'm not new to auto-x and have probably been to 20+ auto-x days. At the last event (3rd in my Evo, 1st on new wheels/tires) I was 2.5 seconds behind John Hale's STU prepped STi. I took second in SM losing by 2.2 seconds to a built GTR on 345 Hoosiers. I'm thinking sway bars will be my next purchase, but can anyone help me with other ideas?
Also, what tire pressures are you guys running in your ZIIs? I ran with 40F/38R last race and tire wear was pretty much even on the sidewall.

Definitely a congrats to Geoff, great meeting him and chatting some, that car is wickedly built, and insanely driven.
Congrats sir!
Rick, still wish you had thrown paper..
or I had known I had some more backup to do so. (not on Geoff, don't misread that folks!)

Sounded like it was an honest mistake, more reason to withdraw yourself though. Sorry as it affected you the most, since you were bumped from the trophies. It was generous of the class to allow the option to withdraw. The competitor probably hasn't seen the ugliness of a formal protest. You know you earned the STU 8th place trophy at the 2013 Solo nats.

Thanks Rick, was great finally meeting you as well. Still rather have the hardware to prove it.
Agreed, though honest mistake or not, he refused to lee me look over the boost tables to see if they were altered.
Was great finally meeting Mr Berry & Mr Grice as well!

Thanks everyone! Yay Evo is back on top of STU like it should be!
Was a blast running with everyone! Nice find on that car you got there Brian!
We need more Evos next year, Subies out numbered us in grid.
I've never been that far behind at a Pro -1.4 going into the second day. Josh sure put the hurt on me Sat. Both of our 60' and reaction times where poopy lol. Fought some setup and heat Sat (over 100). Sun was cooler (like 70 maybe) and I made up 1.6 on one side alone. I didn't run the Challenge to save the car for Nationals
I thought the East course was going to be a lot closer - lots of slow, out of boost, tight turns - like 6 of them where I'm sure the STi owned me lol.
West was a fun technical course. Had a great first run then coned my second run so I just put it in 3rd and just drove around the course leisurely - bad idea! Ended up picking up a bunch of OPR on the rears and it made my third run quite loose
Hopefully the illegal car will fix it before he comes to another event, local or otherwise. He stated he bought it that way, but did change other things he new were not legal for class. Could be honest mistake...or not.
Thanks to - MAPerformance for suppling all the pieces needed to build an awesome STU Evo
and of course Ciro Design Racing for the specialized kick butt parts for the Evo!

From: Why do they always call the Evo the Dark Side?
Congrats Geoff!
Now hopefully they don't screw up the class with the C5 / 350Z for next year.
Cuz you know, the 350Z obviously isn't competitive in STR.

Not many people, if any, wrote letters against it (I did), and I heard no one at the town hall meeting opposed the proposal either. Unless people write in ASAP, the SEB thinks this is what STU wants, and will approve the C5 and the 350Z in the next meeting or so.
I cited about the C5 :
- On a roll it's faster than an Evo. About the same in the 1/4 with a much higher trap speed.
- Makes torque low down, so gearing isn't an issue, especially with the 2" shorter 285s.
- Non strut suspension allows a very low ride hight and CG, and superior cornering speed.
- HP/Tq dynograph with ST mods. Got most info from the vette forums.
- That there are very few SCCA AX C5s, and very few C5s on the street with suspension mods. So there is no problem/want to be filled at the regional entry level. This may create the case were mostly top experienced racers come in to exploit a perceived advantage.

I'm actually going to submit a follow-on with a reminder that STU was the 9th-biggest open class at Nats and that the 350Z won STR.
