I used the autox events in the last 6mos to figure it out... ride height, swaybar stiffness, shock settings - nothing from my notes were working. my last hope is changing out the rear lsd oil and hope it starts grabbing again. I havent done that so I'll report back later
That was it. New lsd oil put me back on top at that last autox event

nice, easy fix! how much driving had you done on the old fluid to make it so ineffective??

i keep recommending the rear diff fix but nobody wants to hear about it. they are stuck on buying larger rear sway bars. to each their own, i guess.

edit: nevermind; we seem to be talking about something older than an X, given the bit about restacking the rear diff plates
while on this - i've got a carbing aluminum undertray on my evo, frankly doesn't seem that great heat-wise, I could only imagine it does better keeping heat in than dipsersing it like the OEM plastic one would - any thoughts on this from anyone?

IIRC just having an undertray creates a pressure differential that draws the heat up and out the louvers in the hood.

about 1500mi. At the beginning of the year I have been drifting my old tires. That probably used up the effectiveness of the lsd oil. It just fell flat on its face as soon as it got warmer and got new ZIIs. It sucks it took me this long to figure it out

icic.. sounds like that's regardless of the undetray. i guess i'll keep it.

to note, boomn929 in his hay days in TTB/A had some heating issues with his brakes + no undertray, and swapped fluid to amsoil brake fluid and plastic undertray and no more overheating brakes. all the things i just said could be totally flip flopped though, i don't remember.

What kind of oil are you using? What happened such that it no longer allowed lockup?

Could it be that the same lockup was still present however with your new grippier (not sure that is a word) tires the backend no longer had the ability to break loose?

You can't create a vacuum with a hole in the bag.

I feel like there is some data missing here.

All things being equal, I think the Japanese engineers at Mitsubishi put these parts on the car for a reason.

Well youre right, definitely all these variables factor in in basically getting the front grip > rear grip AWD story. I did have new tires when I got the restacking done and that was the best performance i got out of my car.
Probably an unconventional choice with LSD oil... I switched from redline to Lucas (yes that one) because i wanted less clunky diff and the outcome was what I expected (great). seeing the rear lsd is similar to my toyota lsds (cusco/kaaz) and I had good results with lucas oil in them I just had to try and I didnt look back. Now I have some time to do some back to back testing with redline and lucas (the latter is cheaper to flush of course lol)

Let us know how that goes. I've never used anything other than OEM (as per advice of Jack's Transmission), so I'm curious of how other stuff works.
