Sometimes I wish I could just go back to STU but I'm so far beyond that point now that I might as well just keep going forward. Getting light seems to just take a lot of creativity, a few $$$$ (but not $$$$$ if you get my drift), and starting to make your own one off things.

Yeah, Ive been calling the aluminum uprights "billet hubs" as an old habit from FSAE days being young and stupid . Oh, and my uprights are 5lbs lighter not 6lbs IIRC. Added another pound in some key areas just for additional safety margin.

There is no way in hell I can afford billet knuckles, a tubular subframe, CF drive shaft, two-piece brake rotors, etc right now... so I guess I'll just have to settle with stuff i can delete.
Since I don't daily the car, I've thought about ditching the crash beams. But man.. what a scary thought.

Well good news, Tubular subframe isn't a legal way to lose weight.. Those must way same as stock and are only meant to facilitate engine swaps.

Touche'. I think your justification will all be related to performance increase. If you find a sub frame or aluminum uprights fixes your geometry to make you faster on track and also happens to reduce weight (just like installing coilovers or an exhaust), then that'd be my direction.

on certain that have more high speed section, its better to have more weight and hp vs less weight less hp, if you're in a class that's limited by weight/hp. you need hp to over come aero drag.

i take pride that my car is still a street car btw. although i just started trailering full time last year since i switched to e85 because there's no easy way to get e85 near tracks. but i do drive it on the street here and there.

I almost went the full-on race car route... but then i realized that I'd hardly ever get to drive it. Forget that. So, no matter how far I got with the build, It's always going to be street legal for CA.
Oh, and I'll never get rid of the AC either LOL.

We used to joke about "strapping small children" to the front of our friends 1700hp sand car to keep the front end on the ground. So this literally made me LOL...hahaha

You guys talking light weight but worrying about a street car....just buy my car as a second car. Should be around 2500 without really cutting anything.

That aside, like stated, you aren't getting an EVO any where close to 50/50. But hey, under full throttle in the lower gears, I bet it's close to 50/50 due to longitudinal weight transfer...just gotta get on the gas sooner and with more HP...

I posted later that I know we can't actually get 50/50. I was kinda exaggerating to make a point and we are unable to change the titles to your threads LOL.

I think i can shave enough weight on a street car to make it worthwhile.

Only reason I said anything about 50/50 was just to point out that under accel (the primary goal of an AWD car, right?) you probably are actually loading the tires 50/50...

FWIW, my car before the last go around was 2950.
Looked full interior and was SM legal with 275s on 18x9.5s. I didn't spend much making it lighter, primarily just removing stuff and picking light parts when replacing the normal stuff anyway. I think 2850 is pretty doable for an SM legal "Street car" with reasonable expense if you don't mind terrible amounts of noise and harshness. lol
