local Pittsburgh Meet
Well guys I finally finished putting the car together and started it up and everything seems to be good. I put in costworth 272's, forge high pressure wastegate, ppi ported and coated manifold, hotside, and 02 housing and ETS 3.5" intercooler. Also thanks to recommendation from Trav I got T-bolt clamps and new stainless steel exhaust studs kit. Tune is coming on Sat. the 12, can't wait!!
Wow, I've never heard of someone getting harassed because of an exhaust. I've heard a lot louder exhausts than 4 cylinder evo's. The general rule from PennDOT I think is a 95 db limit measured 20 inches from the exhaust. I think stereo systems have to meet the 80 db limit.
His claim is that you can't modify your OEM exhaust to make it louder than the OEM. I found some information close to that in PA Title 75 (section d), but you have to be compliant with the sound limits in section (a). Of course it doesn't seem to mention what section (a) limits are.
I am going to fight this for sure. Just gotta to it the "right way" and fight "legal" with "legal" and not go off the wall being pissed.
Hope everyone enjoyed racing today....I know my son enjoyed North Park today....
So..I don't get to go racing because I have to travel on business. So how does my Sunday morning start?
Ross Twp cop pulls me over on McKnight rd. and gives me a warning about the noise level of my muffler/exhaust. I have five days to fix it.
I am researching now...going to contact the attorney. But I was under the understanding you can modify a cars exhuast as long as it passes emissions, and the decibal loudness does not go over a certain amount.
The problem is...I can't find out what that decibal number is. It appears motorcycles and ATV's are in the 95 and 99 decibel ranges. I can't find anything about cars.
Anyone have any information?

That sucks man.....I think he was having a bad day, because I have actually had cops pull next to me and ask me what I have had done to the car, and then they say " Wanna RUn" obviously joking around.........the worst was having a cop stop in the middle of the road and stare me down until I rounded the curve........Bite the bullet and dont fix it.....were you romping on it at all?
Last day for the exhaust sale.......After today I am just going to sell it on ebay.....for more than 250..... Anyone?........All else fails I might just keep it and buy the turboxs DP and TP......If I can find it HAHA

You should see the law they passed in Denver for Motorcycles, It literally makes it impossible for even the quietest bike to pass even with a Stock exhaust. The law says something to the effect of that they can make you rev the engine and measure it right at the exhaust tip.
I know, the EVO is not a M/C but, that is how things get started. First a Motorcycle, then...........

no decibel meter at all. I was too shocked by what he was telling me..and I didn't bother to argue with him. I was driving this morning on my way to the airport...so I didn't need this delay at all and miss my flight....so I kept quiet the whole time. I had the cop follow me about one red light or so....so I kept it to 40mph and nothing over 3500 rpms.
PA law from what I know requires a reading from 20 inches away supposedly. My brother-in-law is a cop in Churchill, so I am going to get some scoop from him on the "real" PA Law....
I have heard the Ross Twp cops can be ....lets say...not customer friendly.

Did you miss your flight?

I know we need some laws, and that is why I can't quite become a Libertarian, but some of it is getting out of control.
I bought Ultra Quiet Baffles for my Harley. I keep getting "looks" from the cops for one, the other is that it is hard to hear my Stereo.. LOL

I live in that Ross area - off Seibert. I havent had any issues yet but i do get nervous when the are behind me thinking they will, I have the buschur magnaflow - seems to be quieter. Do you have the bullet muffler? (see you have buschur stage mods so im assuming you run there exhaust)
My launch control is set really freakin' high...a bit too high for my liking. I just keep the revs up, slip, dump and go. I got some wheel hop on that run, as well as the run after.
First Run: 12.91@107.0 w/1.81 60ft
Second Run: 12.87@106.6 w/1.78 60ft
Final Run: 12.86@109.1 w/1.90 60ft
My worst 60ft gave me my best ET and trap speed...go figure. I think I might have been shifting faster and higher in the rpm band - I was trying to run down a WRX on my last run (I got him
). If I could get a lower 60ft and combine that with better shifting, I should have been able to hit 12.6 or 12.7 I think.
Thanks - oh and it was a good time hanging out with SteelCityEvo. He brought his little girls out to the drags so that they can get used to racing in a couple of years. Good camera man as well...i'll post my 12.87 vid soon enough.

Oh and yeah the girls are going to take some work to get used to the noise level haha. Walking around with their hands over their ears even when there are no cars running haha.
Glad to be of service and assist on production of your video
