Redline Time Attack

Well for all you motorsports junkies and nutsos who love flying around a track that requires one to actually turn the steering wheel , I thought I would open the flood gates on this event.

September 23rd and 24th (main event is the 24th) Redline/Modified Mag are holding at Time Attack event at Summit Point Raceway in good 'ol West Virginia.

I have never run time attack event but, have PDA, HPDE and FATT experience at the Point and I love both the Shenadoah and Jefferson Circuits. I am not sure which track it will be held at though.

I am planning on running at this event and would love to see some of my Evolution brethrens roll down with me and maybe even walk away with a few trophies or whatever they give out to the winners (hint hint Mr. MR, Meanmud, Cloud IX).

Anyway, for those of you interested let me know and we could meet up and caravan down, although I will most likely be staying in the Baltimore area, I can still meet some guys as Baltimore is on the way. Summit Point is about 3 hours from Philly and surrounding areas FYI.

I have never tracked a car in my life as for some reason drag and even AutoX just never held the same authentic "whole-car performance" allure for me as road racing, so I actually am considering entering this thing. I wonder, what class would I be in with the mods listed below, possibly plus Cams and/or Toyo RA-1's by racetime? Are there tire limitations? I assume all that's required is a helmet and the entry fee to run, right?

I'd be coming up from DC.

Thanks,
Adam

To be honest with you I am not sure how they classify the cars. I know there are classes for AWD, FWD and RWD plus steet and modified classes as well as ***** to wall race cars. Tires I think depend on the class as well as the mods.

I am coming down from the Philly area. Hope to see ya there

Adam, if you have really never been on a track before in your life, then starting with a time trial/Solo 1 (i.e., RACE) event is probably not such a terrific idea. You should get the basics of high performance driving down before you start competing on a track! Check out one of the very many high performance driving school/HPDE events. It's always safer if you learn to walk before you run...

Hmm, that might be a good point. I can heel-and-toe and flick my Evo predictably sideways quite decently now and I think I have a good feel for its dynamics, and I am also quite familiar with walking, studying and hitting a racing line properly. That said, I don't have experience with other cars on a track with me. Drag racing experience is irrelevant, obviously.

Are you sure it wouldn't be OK for me to just dive in?

They do have classes for beginners and you will not be racing against someone per say. Although there will be other cars out on the track at the same time they will be released a good minute, give or take, after you have started so you will not have to worry about them being around you. Plus those people in your session will be of the same skill level so they shouldn't be able to catch you.

I'd say go for it The only way to learn is to just do it

I say I think you're right. :-) Hopefully I'll see you there if I can make it work with my schedule.

Best,
Adam

You'll love it. Although it is techinically a race, you aren't going out to be the next Shumacher or Raikkonen

Andrew good luck at Mid Ohio. You'll have to post after the event to let us know how it went.

I'll provide photography support at mid-ohio. Now to figure out where to stand.... I'd like to get close enough that I dont have to rely entirely upon my 170-500mm lens

Me too. I see you are registered already. I see mostly STi's registered at one point and not very many Evo's. We need more people to register. I talked to Chris that is one of the organizers and he said if there is a good turnout they will bring the time attack back here every year. G4 tv, Modified mag, and SpeedTv is supposed to be there as well. Come on people, come and represent especially Dayton Ohio and Columbus area people!!
