I can't believe how many cars are running this size turbo on the street. I thought building my car with an hta35r was going to make me special.

As Ive said in the past I really want to meet some of you guys that I haven't already met. Its never a waste of time to meet other people who have the passion for making these cars put down crazy power.

We should see about a CT meet at some point I can even remember the last one. Don't know if I mentioned it but mine is a HTA too. Got that, a double pumper, 1000cc's, and a few small things going in tomorrow/saturday. I'm curious to see if the coating on my manifold shows any impact. I had Shearer do a ceramic coating on the outside and insulate coating on the inside. To quote Shearer on the insulate coating "The coater said that he had done a test recently on a blown big block drag car on the dyno. He said the headers never got above 300deg Fahrenheit when shooting the outside of the header with a laser temp gun"

"The SHOP" is closed from what I understand. The owner opened up in a diiferent location and is called something like Triple Ace Motorsports.

I appreciate your comments. Please accept my sincere appology if I offended you in any manner, this was not my itention.

It is interesting to me that you report that you are not picking up knock at this time.

Please refresh my memory, did we try diagnosing your car with some race gas at the time we did the tuning session? Its hard for me to keep all these evo m names and real names straight and I can't remember exactly what we did when we tuned your car. We must have done something as you mention the price of $450 that you spent but for existing customers our retune is priced lower than that. Did we perform any mechanical services at the time such as boost leak test or adjusting the springs in an external wastegate?

If your car was showing knock counts when it was on our dyno and now it is not showing knock counts then the "problem" may be as simple as a bad tank of gas. That is why I am asking if we did the race gas test?

Usually the kind of knock counts that alarm me are ones which do not respond to tuning adjustments (e.g. making the mixutre richer or adjusting the timing, etc). When I see a car with significant knock counts which appear unrelated to actual detonation and which appear to not be effected by tuning adjustments, it becomes un wise to complete the tune before first working to determine the cause of the condition.

Any Evo that exhibits knock counts which are unrelated to actual pre-ignition / detonation can be very difficult to tune on the stock ecu. While this condition is thankfully not very common, I have run across a good number of cars that show knock counts on the data logger even though the car is not actually detonating.

Some causes I have seen

1 - Improper cam journal tolerances

2 - Cam cap on backwards

3 - Rod bearing

4 - Stiffy motor mouth frozen

5 - Down pipe banging on sub frame

6 - Loose motor mount

7 - Loose nut inside down pipe

9 - Dump tube rattling on the down pipe

10 - Loose flywheel bolts

11- Injecting oil i the intake - (crank case breather)

12 - etc etc

Also, some cars have actual bad or weak gas and are actually knocking but not due to a tuning issue - simply becuase the gas is not of a suffficient quality.

In those infrequent cases where we run into a "knock coiunt" problem I usually ask the customer to try and go over some of the potential trouble points I mentioned abouve and also change the fuel for a fresh tank of gas - - AND - - more importantly come back for a check over and complete the tune after the diagnostoc steps are commenced.

In any event, I am pleased to hear that apparently from what you say your knock count problem is resolved. That is great news. if you change your mind about the offer for a free retune on the dynjo than our door is always open to you.

Al

al its brandon first time we tuned the evo with the 35r where picking up knock so we decided throw some race gas in it. apparently when i asked for c16 at xx they gave me something elts i forgot wat it was. then the lower intercooler pipe pop off so u had angel put that on for me. we tried adjusting the wastgate dump. u said the knock went down a little bit, then it went back up. then i called u up another day u said come back down ill look at it for free. i ask if u would put it on they dyno u said once i take it on the street if it doesnt pick up any knock yeah we will put it back on the dyno. so that day, u had that kid there from coloroda that u were teaching him and show some basics how to tune. do u remember now? i got the graphite grey evo. both time i was down there tim (staatz) was down there with me. so then u took the car out on the street said it is still picking up knock u said you cant do anything about it. few days later i hooked up my taxtric cable to see if it was knocking. there was nothing. idk man. its weird. ill pm u and we can talk. bc i dont want to drive another 2 hours out of my way to just have the same thing happen to me again u know al. gas ant cheap these days. lol.
