Philadelphia's Classiest Drunkards
yeah you have no idea. Whats funny is as it was happening it was so slow motion and i wasn't really too worried. I was correcting and applying a little throttle, (could have been more my instructor said) And i thought i was going to save it. Then as you can see it just totally went around on me. The instructor was like man i really thought you had it saved i don't know what happened, then lectured me about how i shouldn't be discouraged and not to let it scare me away from the sport... THANKS! Surprisingly the car started right up and drove fine back into the pits. Everyone was really nice and helpful in supplying me with zipties and getting everything done to make sure i could drive it home. Everyone who looked like they knew what they were talking about told me the same thing "don't let the crash keep you away from the track, it happens"
So thats why i want to get back at it this summer if i can, and buy a miata or 240 that i don't mind crashing lol.

alright lets just keep this video to ourselves.
Cliff notes.
- it was the 3rd session i think, it POURED the first 2
- Brad was in the CRX on SLICKS, and went into the grass like 4 times
- i was just cruising around not going quick, no offs
- 3rd session, sun comes out, course is not half dry half wet
- This is the first time i took that corner in 4th
- i don't remember how fast i was going maybe 70-100
- i think i hit the rumble strip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvRxhl-tFbc
I didn't speak for days after that lol. I sold my wheels and like a bunch of parts after because i was so upset. Then gave up racing for that season and raced the crx for the next 18 months.

It doesn't have anything to do with the curbing/rumble strip. You might have touched the curbing on the right side (apex), which is VERY slick when wet, but the car was loaded with the weight on the left side so that wasn't it.
From what I can tell from watching the video without sound (at work) it looks like you did either one of two things. You either got back on the gas too early (before you started to unwind the wheel) or you lifted in the middle of the turn while the wheel was still cranked. Both of which are a big no-no's.
In our cars, which tend to understeer, we can get away with doing those things in the dry and the awd will save you. You likely would have just understeered a little bit around that corner if the track wasn't wet. but when in the wet with reduced traction you have to be SUPER smooth with your inputs. that goes back to the discussion we had a couple weeks about about the friction circle.

Lol, I still need to learn what that diff looking thing connected to the rear wheels is for. Hoping to get out next week to NJMP for some shake down runs on street tires.
As for SM vs SM-T (or whatever the region ends up naming the modified street tire index class), I am choosing SM with hoosiers so I can learn the car on nationally competitive tires and go to more national level events. From driving the sentra on streets and then V710s, it's a big difference. OTOH, I can see the $ savings and tire changing appeal of the class.
I'm more interested in modifing the driver than I am about winning another SM trophy.
The most unsafe time to drive on the track is AFTER the rain starts to clear. What you get is a dry patch, or path, on the track from everyone driving over it. When you stay on that dry path you have great traction, but all you have to do is sway a little to the outside of a turn and you're in wet spot with dry traction speed. That is a bad thing. I don't think that was your problem though. From the vid it looks like the track was still damp, with standing water in some spots, and there hadn't been a dry path made yet.
I'll watch it again with sound tonight when I get home, but I'm confident one of those two things was your issue. Both of which are easy to correct with seat time.
I'd be curious to hear what Pete T., Andy, Mike and the other track junkies have to say...
yeah. I was definitely going faster. In the laps before that i would downshift to 3rd and get on the breaks and really slow myself down before the turn. The instructor told me that was fine but i was giving up a lot on that turn, so it was better to stay in 4th and just slow down from there. The only reason it made me a better driver is that im much more aware of getting my car slowed before my entry and get back on the gas, rather than worrying about slowing mid corner aka coming in to hot. And after that i havn't played in the snow since
it really ruined my confidence lol.

Maybe you should have another shot at my car!I'm looking forward to Chau driving this season.

I've had a few scary moments in the rain/snow due to that, I'm sure you had very little time to respond at track speeds.
Carson like we talked about before, I hope this doesn't keep you off the track. Believe it or not this kind of stuff happens a lot. some people are more lucky than others. I think you were lucky here since you were able to drive away.
I think all you need is a PCA/BMWCCA instructor in your car to build your confidence back up. I've seen you kart so I know you can drive
I just bumped myself down from the uninstructed group to being instructed for the NJMP event because I want someone more experienced than myself with me in the car to shake the dust off for the first event.
