I understand Jame's beef (you like that Dan), maybe they misunderstood what he was asking about when he talked to them.. IDK. I've been in that spot before and I agree, it doesn't feel very nice.
Me, personally, have only paid 60 for alignments all my life from a buddies shop. Full alignment done to spec. But my damn bmw wont FIT! So I really do not mind paying the 125 and supporting another shop with a decent reputation. Heck, I'll gladly pay the extra 20 and go to bimmerworks if scheduling is more convenient!

BUT I can see WHY theyd charge more for springs. While having springs doesnt add any more labor than a stock suspension car, they do come in with out of whack numbers. So its just easier for them to label it that way.

I completely understand why, and I was in no way questioning their price. Just stating that due to Pete's point of going to a regular tire shop. I don't mind paying for good work, and I know Pat is a good guy and works hard. He spent 4-5 hours during my last alignment, getting everything perfect. I tip the guy everytime he works on my car.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I can understand both sides.

on one hand you have someone who was quoted 'X' for an alignment to be performed on a stock suspension car , but in reality should have been quoted 'Y' for said service because the car did not really fall under the original criteria of stock since it has lowering springs.

What Vince told me initially was that he charges an extra ($whatever$) for lowered cars because he is the only shop around that can and will touch them.

Now, having said that, after this was all said and done something should have been said about the quote difference before the customer walked out the door. After the fact I called Vince and told him about the situation and he said he was going to call the customer back and see what he could do, why that didn't happen I don't know...

No it's not, and most people will not. For me, its a nice gesture to show your appreciation of the work. Its not like I give them the car, leave, and come back to get it, and leave again. I talk to Pat, tell him what I want, and listen to his advice. I tell him the nuances of my car directly, becasue I don't trust some people to relay the message. I always hand the keys over, saying take your time, and do what you can.

Mark, I completely understadn how you feel. It's hard to recommend anything anymore.

If you guys need alignments all the time I can possibly setup a "discount evo thing" which seems to be all I do anymore lol. We have a hunter hawkeye rack as well as road force balancing machine, pretty much the best equipment out there.

$145 for a strut alignment, with no special hardware, that's a horrid deal.

I know you like to stand up for R/T, maybe they are nice guys ... but their business practices are a bit scummy.

They charge more because they assume most people don't know the difference.

i should scan and show my before and after numbers i'm talking very very minor changes since my alignment was spot on.

I forgot to mention i dropped the car off at 10 AM and they didn't do it until 3:30-4 PM. wasted my whole day.

I would NEVER tip a technician money. I remember getting tipped once for changing a flat and it just felt....idunno....awkward. I would, however, tip with food/beer
