Philadelphia's Classiest Drunkards
a bad habbit that autoxers have that you might find NOT useful is lifting before or mid corner if your a little nervous about going in to hott, not that i have ever done that going 100mph...
That sucks big time Mike! Good luck getting it back together.
Yards looked like a good time, sorry I missed it.
On a different note, ended up crashing a wedding saturday night (we were invited on friday night, saw them out and they told us they had a cancel), so we went. The whole thing was catered by Victory...

HopDevil and Lager on tap. Pils, Whirlwind, Monkey in bottle. Good times! Even had Hop Devil ice cream with the wedding cake! Yeah, I got pretty tossed... Getting up at 7am to have breakfast with the outlaws Sunday morning kinda sucked.

On another note, I wonder how Petey made out with the car last night. Sandy and Petey on the install update please....Wish I could have stayed to help out more!
Thunderbolt was amazing, and the Evo performed flawlessly. The Porsche Club of America (PCA) put on a great event that seemed to go very smoothly. As previously mentioned there were some unbelievable cars in attendance as you'll see in the pictures. The novice calss (green) got four 25 minute sessions with an instructor. My instructor did a great job getting me comfortable on the track. I learned more in half a track day than I have in 10+ AutoX's. Of everything I learned, it all came down to smoothness and timing.
They had cones set up identifying the apex's. What I found was that when you hit one early or late, you really suffered for the next 3-4 turns in some cases. I was having trouble turning in too early. When you hit one perfectly, it was immediately apparent. You would be able to carry a lot more speed, the car felt happier, it would just feel correct. One thing that the instructor stressed was 'unwinding' the car after exiting a corner. Unwinding was simply a matter of flattening out the car when all the weight is pushing in one direction. I brought some bad habits I learned from AutoX that hurt me on the track. In AutoX I'm used to mashing the throttle and quick steering. Both of the things throw the cars weight around too much on the track. Doing both slower/smoother made a big difference.
By the third and fourth sessions I really started to come into my own. I even managed to make a few passes (including a 997 Carrera 4S
). My instructor was impressed that I was able to keep up with a few Porsche Turbo's in certain parts of the track (especially the octopus). I did get beaten up by the fast cars on the straight. People were doing 140mph to my 115-120. To the Evo's credit, I did crank the boost down quite a bit.
As for the RS, it ran flawlessly. The Racing Brake ET900's/800's worked amazingly well. There is a straight where I was standing on the brakes from about 115mph down to around 50mph, and the brakes did nothing but inspire confidence. No brake fade whatsoever. The Star Specs did great too. I didn't feel like they had any issues over-heating or anything of the sort. Per Marc's recommendations I overfilled the oil by a quart, and put two gallons of 100oct fuel in for added safety. I was basically running 5k-8k rpms for 25 minutes straight.
As for suspension, Bilstein HD's with Swift springs FTMFW! The car handled absolutely beautifully. My instructor was really shocked at how the car handled. In the last lap of the last heat he admitted that the RS would outhandle his track prepared 993.
I think that this is going to be a new addiction. I've already started looking at my budget to see how many track days I can afford this summer.

i knew you would have a good time!!
Ive been on that track before with star specs and it was wet. DO NOT EVER USE STAR SPECS IN THE RAIN ON TRACK!!! PLEASE lol. I was hydoing going like 25 miles an hour. On the back straight i just chilled at like 75 or 65 lol. My instructor was like "yeah..... i would just stick to this speed for now"
Im glad you had a great time. I might have to change my suspension up to what your running!
