hey guys, quick question. my buddy and I were talking oils today and were discussing different weights and viscosity levels for the heat etc. so what is everyone running? I have always run 10w-30, but thinking about trying a different weight bc of all this heat.
pete have fun in florida! havent seen you in a bit, have fun and travel safe bud.

I logged 14.5 hours from beginning to end doing Dans clutch, diff pins, and fluids. It's official, the X transmission is a massive ***** to remove. Of that 14.5 hours we only spent 4 putting everything back in. In retrospect I killed an hour on the TOB, an hour on the downpipe and an hour trying to get the trans motor mount to come out of it's holder. Then another hour trying to figure out how to remove the gear stacks and shifter rails to get the differential out. I think I could have had the whole thing done in 10 or so hours on the first try if I hadn't got hung up on the little things. In the future never bother with the TOB, just unscrew the pressure plates 6 12 MM bolts through the shift fork opening one at a time. Rotate the crank, unscrew one, let it fall then rotate it some more until the next bolt is accessible. That took 15 minutes as opposed to the hour of wasted time on unclipping the bearing.

I am interested in the work involved for the diff pins. You'll have to tell me about it sometime.
What is the over/under on Dan stalling the car pulling out for the first time? I'm going with 3.
did your engagement point adjust a bit as you wore the clutch in? i remember the stock clutch being way more ridiculous when new than this twin disc.
in other news since marc recognized the reason why i pushed the wife to get a bmw i'd thought i'd comment on it.
it really is a very well built car. it being a rwd 328i i thought it was going to peel out at anytime you acclerated while turning the wheel but i have yet to spin the rear wheels and it has enough power to do it.
powerwise it is perfect for my wife and would exceed what i would need in a DD/beater. it is only 230bhp but the automatic tranny is tuned so well to it that it keeps you right in the peak part of the powerband. you definitely notice it sharp pull in it when accelerating but yesterday i ran it up to redline and there wasn't much more beyond that initial (as my wife calls it) thrust. another thing to note is that the shifting of the tranny adjust to how much load you put on it. you can putz around and it will shift fine and then floor it on a back road and it won't shift into the next gear and revs will stay between 3-4k rpms.
steering is stiff, dead and slower than the evo and you just about fall out of your seat when cornering hard. weight shifts/transitions are quick so there isn't a ton of body roll but i don't know where the limits are in it. (i'd hate to crash my wife's car in proper ******* fashion).
cruising on the highway, you can definitely tell that it is meant to cruise at 90-120mph on the autobahn without breaking a sweat with the very tall sixth gear. at 80mph you're at 2500ish rpms. and it is hard not to naturally do 80 on the highway because it is so smooth and drama free.
i don't know if you guys care to know this but i wanted to share it since some thought i didn't think much of the car. it is definitely an upgrade from the corrolla for her and i had no success in getting her into something that was a bit interesting so i went with this and it's a great car that i can stand driving but do admit to feeling a little like a tool in one. driving an old m3 or e30 (like chu/chau) would make me look like an enthusiast.....a new one? a pretentious *******.

did anybody see this thread? meets can be a bit gay and also putting your go pro on the side of your car for a car meet is too but these cops were complete jerk offs.
