Thumbs down Weapon R Engine Damper

I have had my Weapon R Engine Damper for about 4 months now and guess what I found under the hood today?????????????? The frickin bracket that attaches the Damper to the engine block was snapped in half. I kind of pissed me off for a minute. I went to the local speed shop to see if I could order a new bracket. While waiting for a phone call I took what was left of the engine damper off. We dissected the actual damper and determined that the thing wasn't even functional, ie the damper had no play. So I scrapped the idea about getting the new bracket because even if I did put it back on, the chances of it breaking again are pretty good. Needless to say in my opinion the Weapon R Engine Dampers aren't worth $1.00 let alone the $170.00 you can get them for. Take it from me, spend your money on something else. Thanks for reading my 2 cents,,,,,,,

They don't call them weapon rice for nothing. I played w/ one and I couldn't get the damper to move either. Which is why I never would buy one.

Thats the idea but Weapon R's R&D dept needs some help. I guess they didn't consider the Evo's power when they designed it. I can understand them being stiff but zero movement????

That the bracket snapped stinks. Ask WR to replace it, it's clearly a flaw in the part. That being said, I have one too ($100 off ebay), and I found it to be a very effective mod. The damper is not a shock like a gas/oil filled shock on your suspension. If you take it apart you will see that it is constructed with a large polyurethane bushing. This is the same material people use to stiffen up their engine mounts. If you could actually move this thing with your hands, it would be way to sloppy, or you have superhuman strength!

I have had mine for about 4 months now too. It completely removed the "sloppy" feel of the MR 6sp. I have driven my card *hard* on the street, track, and in the mud, and it has held up well to the abuse. So I would guess you had the bad fortune of getting a bracket that was made from a batch of poor quality steel. Of course this speaks bad for WR quality control - not too suprised there.

The brackets are fairly simple pieces. If WR won't replace it (which woud be lame), take the broken piece to any machine shop (lots in the yellow pages), and they can make a replacement.

That sucks man . It is a nice looking mod under the hood though. I agree w/ Void, what if you get a custom bracket made...a stronger one .

For years and years and years, race cars and daily drivers alike have gotten away with no such dampener on the engine, just plain old urethane or rubber mounted engine points. You want less rocking on the motor? Do solid motor mounts. I severly disagree with adding any sort of hydraulic limiter on a motor like ours. Even the highest horsepower Evo's dont have them, so....take a hint I guess?

Not trying to be a jerk, but I'd expect something like that to break.

It's not hydraulic (read above). And for years and years and years, people have been driving cars without forced induction too - want more power? Use more displacement. Even super high output cars have no turbos, so take a hint.

"Not trying to be a jerk, but" ... just because it's new technology (or a new application of old technology) doesn't mean it has no merit.
