Quick question about front license plates

If this is a repost or has already been discussed can someone point me in the right direction?

Below is the RCW for Washington State regarding front plates, but it says it is only effective until 7/1/2011. Does that mean they can no longer enforce this law?

In cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate therefrom may be granted by the state patrol.

how do we get permission from washington state patrol?

While I can't say for sure (since I haven't personally tried), I doubt you could get a front license plate waiver for an Evo. A couple years ago I spent some time investigating the law and found a post on a Corvette forum detailing an owners attempt to get his vehicle waived with the WSP. In one of the email responses from a WSP represenitive, he was provided a example list of cars that had been approved and denied in the past. On the denial list were some 70s/80s Ferraris and Lamborghinis (along with other rare/potentially valuable vehicles) that I never would have imagined would be required to have a front plate. I figured if they were required to have a front plate then there wasn't a chance in hell that I could get my vehicle waived.

^ruh-roh, you're a pretty laid back guy. Was he just makin' sure you weren't some punk kid? I have heard they are worse in Lynnwood about plates/exhaust than most other places I frequent.

Yeah I think he was seeing if he could get me for something...I think it would have gone differently if it was a lynnwood cop, but it was a state patrol guy. I just BS'd with him. At one point he was like "nice seats, I bet that set you back a little" to which I replied , "Nope, stock."

When he started talking about my lack of front plate, the convo pretty much went like this...I invited him to walk to the front and show me where he wanted me to bolt it on..he was surprised to not find anyplace, but said that I still needed to put it on. I asked him for suggestions...first he said to put it on the mesh right in front of the intercooler, I told him no it will block the airflow to the intercooler, then he said the lower left corner, I said no, that blocks the airflow to the active center differential pump, then he said lower right corner, I said no, that will block the air intake for the oil cooler...after that he was like yeah I don't know what you are going to do but you got to get it on....LOL the convo for the exhaust went pretty much the same.

I was surprised. Typically cops stick whatever they can to me...maybe that means I'm starting to look like an old fart? probably helped that I was coming from work..slacks and a dress shirt > "yo mama" t'shirt

I've seen the "vinyl plate" added up front, and will probably do that if it ever becomes an issue for me.
