Question Taillight Trouble Anyone?

Apparently my rear left taillight was flickering in and out. I checked it myself and everything was fine.

42 in a 30 and all you got was a ticket for your tint?! I'm jealous!! Figures you have the camera on standby and you get off with a baby ticket and no drama. Thanks for sharing!

I do have veterans plates, veterans id, military id, and my two cousins pba cards. My cousin was actually pissed that he even gave me a ticket because military and law enforcement is suppose to be the same family, but none of that will help if the cop doesn't care. I'm just glad I didn't get points, even though the average speed for that big open road I was on is 45-50 usually.

Thanks for sharing.
Don't feel bad.
(I've gotten a citation before for a claimed "45" in a posted 35 zone.. and it was on a main street that just happened to be bisecting a neighborhood. Going 40 perhaps, no where near 45. But, back then I didn't have a camera to prove one way or the other... Just my word against his.)

So, a citation for your tint?
Not taillight(s)?? Even though he stopped you initially/originally for "claimed" taillight issues?...
Hmm.. interesting.

I'm pretty sure it was for speed, then he mentioned tints and taillights. That was when I was thinking "oh boy, here we go!" what else is he going to find right? lol In NYC, city cops usually don't ticket military for such minor things, even for cops family members with pba cards 99.9% of the time, but there's always that one guy which was why my cousin was so pissed, because in their book, it's messed up. Highway Patrol on the other hand would ticket their own mothers if given the chance

But I just wanted to know if any of you have ever had trouble with your rear tail light so I can eliminate factory faults or the cop just making crap up.

Be back in a bit and try to recall everything I wrote.

Well, I can't recall everything I typed, so I'm going to paraphrase.

- No, I have not heard anything about faulty LED taillights, especially in our stock OEM units.
(Have you modified/wired-in additional circuits into yours, by chance?)

> I know I've read somewhere that our electronics -due to its system checks- are very sensitive to voltage changes and can cause weird behaviors. I'll have to see if I can find that thread.

Well, my personal take on this matter is NO ONE is above the Law. No matter if you are current (or ex) cop, military or otherwise. And, does not matter who you know or is related to**. If there was a legitimate traffic infraction, then the ticket is justified.

I'm just not sure what's with the claimed of a "taillight problem", but then sighted for window tint?

So, your citation only had "tint" as the offense?
No mention of taillight issue or over speed??

> I'd go to the dealership and have them run a diagnostic for taillight/electrical status (and get a printout of the results), just to be certain and as record/document for if you need to validate the claim.

> I'm not a fan of super dark tint any how, so perhaps if you get that "tweaked", so you can argue/contest your way out of this ticket.

How much is a ticket in NYC for "too dark tint" anyways?

**I have family in the Dallas Police Dept.

I think it's $100+, but I'm not going to contest it. I accepted this consequence when I first decided to get the tints. It's just a premium I will have to pay every so often.

Ouch.

Fair enough.

Too bad there's not an easy way to have our backup-cameras dump video feed into the dashcam too. At least, it would have captured some tell-tale signs of your taillights "problems" or not, or anything else that's happening behind our vehicles...

I have to look into that one..

That and not being able to see properly out of your window haha.

I think mRVRsport covered my feelings on this to be honest.

Oh and I'm not aware of any tail light issues

My front tint has helped me see better on bright, sunny days more times than it has hurt me seeing at night.

I have 20% on the fronts and OEM on the rear and other than backing up (using my side mirrors), I can see perfectly fine at night. To resolve my reversing issue I switched to LED reverse bulbs (which didn't help at all), then added a LED license plate frame light and wired it to my reverse lights. It's definitely bright enough! https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ou...additions.html

I also frequently just roll my front windows down, but point is even with them up I can see safely 99.95% of the time.

If you're referring to me, my front windshield tint is not even noticeable. It's my side windows that's a little dark at night.

Yes I'm referring to you. You've even said you have trouble looking out of the windows.
