List your mods, purchasing decision (accessory, trim level etc.) what you would not do now. Please, provide a brief reasoning why you think it did not work out for you.

I regret purchasing steel wheels from the dealership with TPMS sensors for my winter tires. This was a $400 net monetary loss and three winters watching the ugly wheels.

I also regret spraying my dashboard with ArmorAll. This resulted a constant fight with dashboard cracking/popping noises.

 

regrets:
- they had a 2.4GT w/Nav + leather for the same price i got mine 2 weeks after i bought it. wife didnt want leather, but nav would have been nice. her car was dead, though, so couldnt really wait.
- should have waited and got aftermarket mud guards. not much selection at the time

 

+1 on steel winter wheels - although since I bought my RVR used, the seller threw them in. I would NEVER, EVER buy steel wheels again. Almost as bad as chromed aluminum.

So far, no regrets on the car at all! Could probably sell it for more than I paid for it, too.

 

What is the problem with steel wheels for winter? I am contemplating a set of winter tires and thought throwing them on some cheap steel wheels would be better than paying a shop to remove them from my standard wheels. Plus going 16'' and a narrower tire makes sense.

Is it just that they're prone to rust? I don't care about the cosmetic aspect at all...

 

For the same price you can get alloys that are not prone to rust and look better. Just after 3 winters my steel wheels started to rust. I bought a set of used alloys for $150 Canadian off from a 2006 Ralliart (16 x 6"). This looks very nice even after 8 or 9 winters. Like you said one can just swap the tires twice a year without visiting the dealer or any tire shop. Do not forget the TPMS issue though if you mount the winter tires on a different set of wheels (you have a few options all have pros and cons).

As for regrets, not getting a OS with navigation/back up camera. I've been looking for a nice head unit but I don't want to lose the steering wheel controls, especially the phone which I use a lot and really like.

Seems like a big headache. It might have to wait until I change cars ha.

 

There are several options to retain steering wheel controls.

As for rims, steel looks like hell after two winters. Plus they are hard to clean (imbalance caused by mud, etc.). Not much of a cost savings.

 

Wish I would have got the glass roof and RF system

 

I bought a base model. Only things I've done really are led fogs with halos and debadged the rear. Oh, and I now have a mitsu touchscreen unit with a backup cam.

I'd like to say I wish I got the RF with the pano, leather and awc, but considering I bought it only a little less than 2 years ago at 19 with no help, I can realistically say I wish I had either bought it used with those options or at least gotten awc and leather. I really never thought leather would be such a sticking point until I bought this with cloth, haha.

Regardless, I still have a weird attachment to this vehicle... it is sometimes a love hate relationship, but hey, I still have it and it's not going anywhere in the foreseeable future

 

The only regret that I have is not getting AWC. I got all the other options that I wanted but my dealer didn't have an AWC model with Pano and RF. I also wouldnt buy any other color than silver so that made finding one even harder.

 

I have the 2012 SE version, with AWC, floor lighting, fog lights, piano black covers around the shifter, and radio, cargo mat, LED exterior and interior lighting options. I've added WeatherTech full floor mats, OEM mud guards, and OEM front corner lips. My regret is that I did not get this vehicle sooner, and not having the big rear wing.
