Hey Jake, when you state that VTA is really not as bad as everyone makes it, do you mean the noise, or energy loss, or something else? Is this based on "seat of pants" dyno or have you done back-to-back tuning-type runs? I have often wondered about this but wasn't sure.

Also, you mentioned that you do VTA in a later post to hear your BOV and I was wondering if you have a cone filter or some sort of box filter setup. My stock BOV seems plenty loud right now with a cone filter and am curious. Thanks for any info!

I just swapped the HKS SSQV for a re-circd synapse bov today. While I was at it I went ahead and installed the Perrin Filter, as all my parts came in today! Took me longer to put on the filter than expected... I have the HKS intake so I had to chop about an inch out of the pipe and an inch off the coupler to get a better fit... not as perfect as I would have wanted it but its not bad. At first I tried running the synapse bov VTA as the HKS was vta. This was nearly inpossible with the synapse because it is open during idle, and basically blows throught the BOV and AFR at idle was as rich as the AEM UEGO would read 10.0. It was time to re-cir and be done with it... I had to go to Vatozone and search through all their pre formed heater hoses until I found one that matched up close ($15) then drove back home and put it in. Re-cird this thing is bad ***, no fluttering when I get off the throttle, but I haven't taken up hill and put a load on it to see if it bucks and jerks, I will do that on the way to dinner. I have my fingers crossed... I kinda like that the BOV is a bit more quiet with it re-circd...

Hmmm, my stock IX BOV flutters occasionally and if I let off the gas I usually can feel 2 small bucks/jerks ~1 second after I lift, and ~1 second between the 2. I am pushing similar mods as you Freddie and have wondered if I should go with a different BOV.

Personally I don't mind what I'm experiencing, I just don't want any longer-term issues to surface at some point.

I had the same symptoms. It slowly manifested itself into the BOV popping open pulling a hill in 6th and building 4-5psi if would just open and the car would fall on its face. I can make the stock BOV flutter in 3rd-6th now. The car will jerk and buck and actually introduce compressor surge in higher gears. I think my stock valve is getting weak though...its been put through its steps, it just can't really hold anymore. With the APS it feels like driving it when it was bone stock. Nice and smooth with on/off throttle like an NA car.

When I say "its not as bad as everyone makes it seem" I mean with the energy loss/air loss. It does jurk a little bit more when i lift off the throttle, but since I have drove with a VTA pretty much the whole time, i got use to it and now drive the car different to make it not do that. I keep a certain throttle position going up hills and things of that sort, and its really just normal now. And I do have a cone filter, and with the stock one on i couldnt hear it at all. Most of the other cars I have ridden in with the stock bov and a cone filter its quite a bit louder, but not mine.

Well it jerked slightly going uphill while introducing boost, and instantaniously it was fine again, had this been the HKS it would have fallen on its face! I am super pleased with this BOV... why this BOV most people have asked... because I already had an HKS flange on my UICP and they had an adapter fitting... easy install, and I got it for a really good price from Nolimit Motorsports...

Open exhaust

What are the negatives besides loss of back pressure. Is it better to run just downpipe while drag racing or full exhaust???

Loss of back pressure is not a negative.

The least amount of back pressure is best. So as Billy said, that is not a negative.

It's loud as hell, makes the car vibrate and angers old people miles away. Performance wise it's really not much of an improvement over a 3 inch exhaust.
