^^ GOBS AND GOBS ^^

depends on each person... for me thats 450+ but IN combo with tracking/autox/etc the car where temps are much higher than that on the street just cruising, with the occassional heavy foot. haha

i was just saying that the 6spd isnt "fragile". Its a decent tranny...

got it - I was just wondering if you were one of those that assume there is a magic # where the 6-spd implodes! Agreed that if tracking with power, something woulda gone *poof* by now.

yeah what i plan for my evo( whenever the hell i get one) is normal DD/no track time/ just a few mods, aps bov, exhaust, wheels/tires/cosmetic things nothing over the top maybe some intercooler piping but that is about it....when i drove the 5spd SE a couple weeks ago i underestimated it on the highway...i felt like i needed that 6 spd because my commute to school is kind of long and would love the 6spd but the 5spd did not bother me at all.

over all my uses for the evo would be a DD/city driving and just recreational really but NO track time at all... just a few mods and nothing really like adding cams or all that stuff...that is why i am kind of trying to make peace with purchasing an SE and not an MR i just don't want to regret it later down the road...plus i would be switching the suspension out and adding my own guages like defi ones later down the road....but nothing at all extensive done to the motor

Having that extra gear on long interstate drives is definitely nice. Based on the driving I've been doing around Seattle since I got here, I'm constantly down shifting out of 6th. I've actually started avoiding even shifting up into 6th because of the traffic conditions around here. My evo just does not like the 2500-3000 rpm range under daily driving conditions. With that said, my MR is mostly stock and I love it!

awesome man! sounds great! my commute is from the north end to seattle...its not that bad at all but you know i think i can live without the 6th gear...i drove an MR and a SE and i like both alot! im not gonna really mod my car at all when i get it, so 5spd may just do the trick...i just really don't want to regret any decisions i make

Minh, are you going to make it out to Jack's tomorrow? If so, that would be a good time to get a ride in a close to stock MR, maybe even hit the highway. Again, if I were going for the 5-spd I wouldn't just narrow my search to the SE trim, especially if I found some nice Evos for sale with good aftermarket wheels, etc.

I commute from the north-end to the eastside and I find 6th useful for me. Then again, I'm an early riser and I don't get traffic, so cruising anywhere between 70 and 80 is the normal for me and seems to be where 6th feels normal. I do down shift to 5th a lot the rest of the time when there is regular traffic.

Dan, I still need to get a ride in your beast! I was a little worried about getting in there after all them guys you took the last time came back looking like they all nutted! Haha. JK, sort of, but it was late anyway.

Mine is probably the most stock MR here.

I'll be there tonight. We can do the Evo version of Goldilocks and the 3 bears to help mr_evo206 decide which one is just right.

is 320 wheel not gobs?
If gobs and gobs is like 500 then 320 > then 1/2 of 500

I just got back from Wyoming, 1800 miles and loved having 6th gear. I drove between 70 and 85mph, 3000 RPM at 70 3500RPM at 85 and averaged 23 MPG. I only downshifted to 5th two of the passes. For road trips it is really nice.
I have taken the car to the track and am planning a couple more trips this year. No tranny problems yet. FWIW.

good luck man i know you've been real patient in finding the right Evo...it will pay off...

as for saying your only going to do a few mods....I did the same thing " i'll never get cams" then the S2's came...."I'll never get a new turbo" then the green hta came.....etc etc!!!
