Couple of my friends have boosted S2ks and they are so much fun. If I didn't have kids, boosted s2k would be my choice. Evo is nice but have rattles. I think I am just getting older lol

Ive felt the same way the past few years lol. The smallest rattle just rubs me the wrong way anymore lol.

I replaced my front roll stop mount a month ago in the evo with a Megan Racing 70A one, it helped a lot. The blox 90A mount was just too rough for me lol.

Quote: haha, thanks guys. As of right now I have two car payments as well, one for the evo, 2 years left, and one for my daily. I would like to get rid of both payments lol. I may just sell my daily and just drive the evo all summer, although, I hate to rack up miles on the car like that(my drive is about 50 miles round trip).

The main goal is to try and pay the evo off with that plan. I hate having two car payments lol, then we got my wifes payment as well haha.

The idea with the s2k, is I wouldnt modify too much beyond wheels and a nice susp. setup for it. I feel like I could just get in the car and drive forever haha, something I dont do at all in the evo, and maybe I SHOULD do this summer.

I mean, the evo is pretty much where I would want it to be. Id still like a trans with the evo 8 3,4 and the 4.11 fd, but thats a long shot right now.

I may just have a case of the winter blues as well lol. This weather is crap, cant take the car out safely, with the tires that are on it, forced to drive my 07 camry all the time, no fun in that lol.
i definitely understand your reasoning behind it and honestly , if i was in your shoes i would daily the evo, i know i know... that a lot of miles for you to rake up on it, and it may get ding up with stuff on the road but.. that small price to pay then a car payment and loose a car you love, if you definitely plan on keeping and not sell it later on, drive with your hearts content

Nothing really here to update guys.

Only thing I plan to do with the car, is try to ENJOY it this summer!

I switched it back over to its e85 map last Friday. I have sinced, drove it to work twice. I absolutely love how this car drives with Devins e85 tune! I was planning on taking it to Devin again this spring to have him finish the race map on e85. Then I kinda thought....why?? the car is making 584hp/513tq on his MD on the street map at 34psi. Im just gonna leave it as is, have some fun and see what happens by fall...whether I decide to sell then or not.

I am gonna eventually hunt down a carbon SE lip soon, just looking for one at a good price.

I am hopefully gonna get my friend to do a photoshoot of the car as well this summer. He does great work and literally helped my old 1g make so many dsm fans wallpapers lol. Looking forward to having him to do the shoot!

Well, here I am again!

Car was running good all summer. Devin tuned the car last fall, it ran great and I actually was enjoying the car.

Then comes the shootout.......

2 weeks prior to the shootout, I set out to get another set of qtps and 16" wheels. I looked for a few days for a used set and then time was a factor, so I just ordered a set of Rota slips and hoosier qtps, all brand new!

The thing I wanted most, not to happen....happened. Car broke friday night after two passes. My times werent were I was hoping to be, but the car was trapping 132mph easily.

After my 2nd run, I heard a faint knocking from the motor. It was about 2500 rpm and over it would make the noise. I pretty much idled it back to my pit area and **** it down. The car pretty much sat there all weekend as I knew deep down inside that it was prolly a rod bearing.

I started it for a few guys to let them hear it and they agreed.....rod bearing.

I got the car home and pulled the oil pan the same night. Sure enough, metal flakes. Which brings me to now. I got the motor out and completely disassembled. No idea what caused the spun rod bearing.

It seems like just yesterday I was putting this damn motor in and getting it going and now I am back in the same boat. Everything oil touches needs to be replaced or flushed thoroughly.

I am dropping the motor off with Devin in a few weeks for him to look at it and hopefully rebuild the block. I am hoping the pistons are reusable, as well as maybe the rods. The #4 rod does show some signs of getting hot on the rod cap though. Buschur "customizes" everything in the motor, so its hard for me to replace just one rod maybe.

If Devin ends up recommending new pistons and rods, this car will probably be parted it out. Might just look for another evo that I can pay cash for, or maybe do another 1g, then pick up a s2k for a fun car to drive on the streets.

you'll end up needing to probably replace:

Crank
rod and main bearings due to the shavings going everywhere
the discolored rod
frontcase
oil color

That should be it. Sorry that it happened that sucks. If you didn't have a baffled oil pan i bet that was the culprit.

I unfortunately had to email Buschur and try and get the part numbers for exactly such rods and pistons are in the motor. I was planning on getting a new oem 100mm crank, a new ringset for the pistons and bearings of course. Hopefully myself or Devin can get one rod from Manley to match.

The only baffled oil pan I would run is one that well......Buschur sells. I'm not giving any more of my money to that guy for parts. I would rather not spend the big bucks in those oil pans from ams etc that I hear have clearance issues and all too.

I may just have to copy Mr db's design and have a friend tog some extra metal in the pan.

If you need a single manley rod i can get you one for about $190 shipped

But if Devin's building the engine you should give him the sale so he makes some $ on it since he is going to be the builder.

also some say you can clean the frontcase out so id look into that. if its a fresh frontcase it wouldn't hurt to look into. those things are pretty expensive to just trash. I usually trash them, but my friend told me that they can be cleaned out.

Well I tore the car all apart a few weeks ago. Engine is torn down to a bare block. I didn't see any evidence with the naked eye on journal #4 of the crank as to any sign if why the failed. The pistons look just fine although I am gonna purchase a new ring sent for them. The rods look good so far. The #4 rod did see some heat as the rod cap has the rainbow color on it. It will be up to Devin on whether or not that rod will need replaced.

I found that Mitsubishiparts.net has the OEM 100mm crank for 644 plus shipping, so that was a relief. So it's on purchasing anything that touches oil, having the head hot tanked and I'm gonna flush the turbo out with some naphtha. All new lines etc.

Last sat I went to push the car back a foot or so to get something out of the garage. I pushed it back no problem and put a block behind the front tire so it didn't roll.

Well Sunday I was approaching the garage and noticed that when I had pushed the car back, the rear bumper caught my engine block I had sat back there, just ripped a nice 8" line out of the bumper..... Great now I have to respray the bumper.

I'm really considering rspraying the whole car. May change color to Nissan pearl white, might leave it blue. Have to decide that after Devon tellse the news on the block.

I figured while I wait on my new bottom end this year, I would do some other projects I have wanted to tackle on the car.

First off, I wanted to get rid of the abs. Having a 9, I know I couldnt get rid of the abs without ditching the acd as well. I dont have any issues with acd, but I know it has to go if I want to get rid of abs.

I will say, I wont miss the acd mess when pulling a motor etc haha.

I began to pull everything out of the bay with he acd and then took it a little further. I figured I might as well paint the engine bay this time with the motor out. I am still up in the air on whether or not to respray in factory EB, or change the whole car this spring. Its got me thinking.

Anyways, bay is prepped and ready for paint already, just gotta get some time and make the decision on what color haha.

In the meantime, I wanted to delete all the acd and abs wiring in the harness. This is a little intimidating at first. It requires removing the dash and harness out. Once the harness is out and laid out on the floor, it all starts to make sense. So I got about 4hrs in it last night and got all the acd and abs stuff deleted from the main harness.

ABS and ACD wiring removed!
