My advice would be to plan your rear diffuser first with your Aero guy, then as you mock it up cut out only what is needed/allowed by the rules for your sanctioning body. Most rear diffusers, whether it be a tall dual tunnel setup or a single wide diffuser will not require cutting the spare tire well if you keep the angles good and the airflow attached. I only did mine now for other reasons, not for aero/rear diffuser reasons. . .

aero in el paso is... well it isn't...

also i have no sanctioned body...

i know i don't have to pull it... but the weight loss would be a plus... and it allows for a smoother flow since it doenst have to drop so low to clear it...

It's been slow going on the race car lately. Tonight I did some more seam welding. I got 1/2 of it done, then flipped the car 180* and will finish the other half tomorrow night. I'm in the process of buying a new house and have been spending a lot of time fixing up my current place getting it ready to sell or rent. The EVO is still on the rotisserie and you can see my little 2-car garage is pretty crammed full of crap. I'm looking forward to getting to the new place so I can spread everything out and have a place for everything instead of having to constantly shift things around depending on what I'm working on.

The new place has a 2-car attached garage as well as a 50x50 detached garage/storage barn, plus a 40x60x14 shop with 2/3 of it insulated and heated with a Lanair waste-oil furnace. Best part - it also comes equipped with a lift, Miller plasma cutter, Miller TIG welder, sheet metal shear, sheet metal brake, a mill, and my very own port-a-john in the shop. What sold me on it was the AMSOIL sticker on the door to the shop That told me I HAD to have it! ALL sorts of fun activities I can do with all these new tool goodies!!

Eh, PS4 coming out soon. I'll just buy that lol. Really though. A lot of work done to the car so far. Excited about seeing more progress.

About 4 hours with a powerwasher

Here are some more pics of the chassis prep. I decided to go back and weld some more seams. I just keep finding more areas I should weld up I think I'm totally done with that now. . .

Got some more work done today. Finished up the seat bases (trimmed/capped the ends of the tubes). Got the front and rear subframes on so I can get it rolling and off the rotisserie for now. The plan is to now fit up the seat and pedal box and steering column, install an engine, then rewire the whole car. Once I get all the mounts for the electronics and aero done then I'll take it all apart again and have it painted before final assembly. . .

I like that house.

On your cage it doesn't return to the front strut towers for over all rigidity?
would make the car stiffer and more consistent in regards to handling and suspension wouldn't it?

You can do it. Just have to be extremely careful that it isn't deemed 'strut tower modification'. Bad things happen after that w/ NASA. Ask me how I know LOL.

I have not yet decided exactly how much cage work will be in front of the firewall. I'll have something up there, just how crazy I don't yet know. I have a bunch of left over tubing from the original cage install.

Was just curious as I know the hoops to jump through for a FIA or CAMS clearance here , seeing old mate's comment above about problems with the governing body over what is basically a safety feature...not good.
