right - 255/40/17 is right about 25", so my fender to ground is probably like 27" - maybe even 26.5", I can measure too. but even if I leave an inch, doesn't that mean I don't expect the suspension to compress more than 1"? or at least, that it'll have enough camber that it won't make contact under that much compression?

When you roll the fender, it's going to pull a smidge. The tire will tuck in just fine. When I went from my old coilovers to the Ohlins, I actually lowered the back of the car about an additional 1/8", and raised the front 1/2'. Lowered the rear for that low CG, raised the front to get a little bit better geometry out of the front suspension. Also, the car had too much rake before.

surprised i never updated this. no issues with contact anywhere (tested at autox) and clears the trailing arm perfectly as well. i think the 6mm extra gives me the clearance i need from the arms and i run -1/32nd toe out in the rear too. car feels great, the grip is a much, much higher and the car is very neutral. earlier this morning:

so the car in general feels great, but I have one or two caveats - one being, the car almost feels like a steamroller of grip rather than a sharp nimble tool. in order to address that, I've been looking to do what I can to pull off a small amount of weight in the front via a small battery. reasoning being, today's small battery (shorai specifically) provides all the cold cranking amps this car needs. the other is, this car sits so long in between events that it stays hooked up to a trickle charger even on my deep discharge yellowtop - this being the case, honestly what's the difference b/w running this or a small battery?

previously I thought that there was no way I'd be able to feel 30-35lbs coming off the front, but the more I drive it, I think I could. i'll know for sure soon as i'll be picking up a shorai battery.

the other is, the car doesn't seem to brake that HARD. I'm wondering if this is due to the -3.3 degrees of camber I'm running. I may pull it back to -3 degrees, not sure.

Both of these though, could be attributed to me driving my other autox car, the Mini, which feels extremely nimble and sharp, and has probably the best factory brake performance I've ever felt.

Unfortunately, as good as the Evo is, it is not a mini cooper when it comes to direction change...LOL. As for brakes, what pads are you using now?

sad but true lol.

using girodisc s/s. sometimes i feel like if i stand on the pedal any harder i'm going to bend the metal. the metal brake takes a lot of abuse if you think about it.

i think re: the brakes i just got used to the mini really clamping down and stopping. can feel like i hit a wall. evo almost feels like it resists stopping. it brakes fine for most stuff though, i never blow a corner cuz i didn't brake enough/in time - just feels like idk i want to be alarmed at how fast the car stops lol

I know the feeling you're talking about with the Evo. When going from hard/wot accel (especially in 1st ro 2nd), to hard on the brakes, it makes the ABS freak out, and makes the car feel like it's not stopping because the pedal is pushing back on your foot really hard.

that actually reminds me too, when pulling off the course where it was just WOT and just throwing it into neutral from 2nd, sometimes the revs just hang and come down as if i were in gear. maybe it does that when being in gear trying to keep some momentum or something while the brakes are trying to slow it down. maybe...? btw i know for sure both my evos did this, different tune, tuners, set up, etc.

My car doesn't hang. Drops to 1300-1400rpm real quick.

Finally got around to installing the battery!

Full write-up here: https://r56hs.com/2017/07/04/evo-lightweight-battery/

One thing - I connected the negative terminal groudn to the bolt where the ECU case is connected to - pic below - any issues with that?
