EDIT: Here's a link to one of the articles on coatings I read with a back-to-back A/B test on the same engine.

Another little update. Dropped off my head today. With Aby's feedback, I am going with OEM sized inconel exhaust valves and +1mm intake valves. Should be ready in a month or so since the shop is busy.
Also got this in...I know it will take some massaging to get it to work, but I also know that the stock windage tray could use some improvement.

This also arrived yesterday when I was at work. People laughed when I called it my baby lol

Nice pretty aero nut on the comp wheel.

Was surprised to see the oval wastegate on the MHI housing. Poked around and read that Mitsubishi saved $1.00 per turbo by going to the circular single puck. Some guy on MLR reported that he felt snappier response with the oval housing but it had a tendency to creep more than his circular housing. Most people say there is no difference between the two.

Looks like there is some porting that could be done here (and will be):

And even the turbo outlet pipe could use a little bit of work.

Thanks. Got some more stuff in.
So, I was pretty excited when I saw PTP Turbo blankets had an application for the Evo. As much as I love ceramic coatings, a nice turbo blanket is superior to .015" of ceramic. I was less excited when I opened the package from PTP.
I'm no engineer, but the fit on this thing kinda sucked. I was like, "No way is this an Evo part." So I Googled the part number, and it came up as a universal T3 housing blanket. Not cool. So I sent PTP an email explaining my frustrations at selling a universal blanket as platform specific. Especially when the ovalized exhaust housing and odd angle meant that T3 fit like crap.

Putting this blanket on would be like turning on the heat and opening all the windows in the wintertime.

So, here's the good news. PTP is a stand up company. They asked if I had a spare turbo. I said yes. They said send it in and give us two weeks. We'll make you a blanket. I said 'deal.' Which is good, because soon you'll be able to get a properly fitted blanket as well for your OEM Evo turbos.
How cool are turbo blankets? If you read that link below, you'll see it was good for 250rpms in spool on a diesel turbo. And we're running much higher boost pressures. I'll take 250rpms on a Red and 2.3. That means there's a chance to get full spool in the mid 3500 area. Not too shabby.

Just read through the Analysis. Great read. Please keep us posted when PTP returns your turbo and your new blanket as to the fit and finish of their final product. I'm definitely interested in getting one for my FP Green now.

PTP got the turbo yesterday, so in 2-3 weeks we'll have ourselves a properly fitting blanket (hopefully).
Everything looks really nice and I'm excited to see how your build turns out. I hope all is well my friend.Mikey
