man that head looks too nice to use. top notch works from those guys. I wouldnt worry about the oil drain back porting. the kiggly hla was created for the early 4g63 DSM engine. the early engines have only three restricted drainback holes. the evo 4/9 came with like nine huge ones. if you have the pleasure of comparing the two its mind boggling. the early evos 1/3 came with factory HLA regulator. kiggly got the idea for his from that. the factory regulator dumps the oil in the head, kigglys does not. otherwise they work the same at regulating the oil pressure to the lifters to prevent over pumping. the 4/9 didnt come with one. nor did any american market 4g63. you have to ask why.

I will say that I am learning a hell of a lot and making mistakes here and there. For example, I should have gotten the rods and pistons balanced BEFORE I sent them to Swain Tech. Now the machine shop is gonna have to grind away some of the oil shedding coating on the rods when they do (Since Aby is assembling the motor, I am trying to save him some time/work). Perhaps Swain Tech will touch them up for me for a lower price.
For anyone doing an engine build, I recommend poring through all these different builds. You learn a lot. For example, I just discovered a potential issue for people with Fluidamprs. I know I have seen a few people with their SAE 8 crank bolts sheered off with the OEM crank pulley (which can cause a lot of damage), but it can especially happen to those with the Fluidamper. Seems there is not enough thread engagement with the OEM bolts because the flange is too thick. Luckily you can purchase ARP bolts that will do the trick. Yeah, I'm using 8000 rpms as my arbitrary redline. Might dyno it to fuel cut at 8500, but I bet the Red will run out of breath by then.EDIT: Yup. "MUST HAVE BALANCE SHAFT DELETE"

Like I just said, me trying to wrap my head around every part of this build is like trying to drink through a firehouse with your brain...especially since I don't have a heavy mechanical background. I wish I had paid a lot more attention back in the day when my dad was racing his TR3. We had a metal lathe in the barn, and if the local tool and die guys couldn't make them parts, he and his engineer friends would make things themselves.
I wish someone told me I was gonna love modding cars when I was older

Some more updates. Thanks to MrFred's feedback on the fuel system. Got these components in. Went for the kind of trick -6 AN Kevlar multi-fuel flex hose for the feed line. This is a lot more bendable than steel flex and won't scratch the paint. It's lighter too. Not cheap at $18 a foot though.

Yes. Valve job. Combustion chambers polished and valves deshrouded. Intake and exhaust runners ported. New valve guides. Essentially, everything that could be done was.
Now it will be sent to SwainTech to get the combustion chamber, valve faces and exhaust ports ceramic coated.
Once I get it back, head will be assembled and ready for installation.

Things are moving slowly, but moving. Head was shipped to SwainTech this week for coating after I got the valves back from being WPC treated to reduce friction. Also got the balance shafts WPC treated along with the aftermarket ACL BS bearings. So, I don't think there is anything else I could do to ensure my balance shafts don't eat a bearing. I'll be running a Cosworth BS belt. Got the Cosi thrust bearing treated and I'll get the main and rod bearings WPC treated once the engine has been measured for initial clearances.
I will be sending my turbo in to get the comp housing ported next week and coated along with port matching the turbo outlet pipe.
My valve springs, retainers and seats are at cryo treating along with my spark plugs. Kept the stock heat range since I'll be running E85 most of the time.
I did get the blanket back from PTP, and it is WAY better than before. I had a friend who was an engineer at Garrett recommend not running the blanket. I trust his opinion, but am hoping the ceramic coating and cryotreating help the hot side from cracking and the Xona center section keeps the CHRA cool.

Damn kinda expensive clutch but sounds awesome. Have u had anyone try it? Obviously this forum is all about competition, exedy ,Quartmaster, etc etc. However this clutch sounds good and u have good taste so....

SpeedSport single plate carbon/carbon clutch. Don't want any twin disc rattle. That would make me want to punch myself in the face...especially since my DD is now a 335i. BMW is smooth. Holds 600 torque. Deciding between aluminum flywheel and steel. If I go steel, I may have a machine shop lighten it a little bit. Supposedly aluminum will transfer a lot of gear noise, but I need someone to quantify that for me. The gear noise the Evo already has, I kinda like

Ok, so now you can purchase Speed Sport clutches directly through MIL.SPEC. Any questions, please let me know. Now, back to the build...
So, I learned a few things. One, you can not have your head ceramic coated by Swain Tech after receiving a real valve job. The Newen machine measures the valves and cuts the seats accordingly.
When you send it to Swain Tech, they'll get material on the seats and the valve backs, so valves would need to be lapped on now you've ruined your valve job. Boo. I've been looking forward to ceramic coating my head for years. Next time around I guess...
Finally got my comp housing ported and gasket matched along with the turbo outlet pipe. Also got a heat emitting coating on the comp cover. She looks kinda pretty
