Well, TRE got the transmission stripped and inspected. Looks to be ****ed and will run about $5k all said and done. Stuck between rebuilding my current trans or getting a new ultimate ratio from shep for $5200.

Notes from TRE.

YEAR:2004 NOTES:
THIS IS A 2004 MODEL EVO-8 TRANSMISSION THAT WAS BUILT AT JACKS...
1ST GEAR ON THE INPUT SHAFT IS SEVERELY WORN, REPLACE INPUT SHAFT.
5TH GEAR SPLINES ON THE INPUT SHAFT ARE WORN OUT, REPLACE INPUT SHAFT.
3RD GEAR ENGAGEMENT TEETH ARE ROUNDED OVER, REPLACE 3RD GEAR. HAVE SHOP CHECK FOR CLUTCH NOT RELEASING PROPERLY.
4TH GEAR IS ALL ****ED UP, REPLACE.
CENTER DIFF SPIDER GEARSET HAS SEVERAL CRACKED TEETH, REPLACE.
THIS CAR REALLY SHOULD HAVE A STRONGER TORQUE TUBE, HIS IS STARTING TO TWIST, REPLACE.
ALL SYNCHROS ARE DAMAGED AND WORN OUT, REPLACE SYNCHROS. CHECK CLUTCH FOR TROUBLE. ASK DRIVER IF HE IS TRYING TO KILL IT.
5TH GEAR ON INPUT SHAFT, THE SPLINES ARE WORN SEVERELY, REPLACE THE INPUT 5TH GEAR.
FINAL DRIVE GEAR IS ALL CHIPPED UP FROM MAKING CONTACT WITH PINION BEARING, REPLACE. I RECOMMEND THE 4.11
ALL SHIFT SLEEVE HAVE ROUNDED ENGAGEMENT TEETH, REPLACE THE SHIFT SLEEVES. THE GEARS HAVE A LOT OF SCUFFING ON THE TEETH, MAKE SURE TO INSTRUCT THE SHOP & CUSTOMER TO USE A BETTER GEAR OIL.
SEVERAL PARTS ARE BEING REPLACED ARE REVISED PARTS OF HIGHER QUALITY THAN THE ORIGINAL PARTS.

Rebuild current trans with Jon. You'll have a better finished product than what you'll get from Shep, hands down. Since you trans needs new 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and a final drive, you can built the same trans as the shep ultimate ratio. I'd do the Evo8 1st and 3rd, straight cut 1:1 ratio 4th, Evo9 or JDM 5th, and 4.11 final drive.

I'm going to end up getting it done with Jon.

Thinking Evo 9 1st, Evo 8 2/3, Straight cut 4th, Evo 9 5th(Jon said the JDM 5th is discontinued), and HKS 4.11.

I would stick with Evo8 first with the 4.11 final drive.

Thats a bummer on the JDM 5th.

Yea man, it is. After a long convo with Jon I decided to stick with the Evo9 1st on his recommendations and didn't opt for the straight cut 4th(budget wise).
Going to post pics of the damage once Jon sends them over.

Looks like I'll be going with the english racing 2.2 block as I'm not currently happy with buschur right now. My only dilemma is do I got with CARR steel H-beam rods or GRP Aluminum rods. What's the feedback on the K1 cranks?
