The K1 cranks are great. I would go with what your engine builder recommends for rods. It will be based on the use of the car.

Aluminum rods require a bit of care. The oil needs to be between 130-230* to keep them happy. But they do help the rod bearings.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Going with the ER 2.2L Drag block(what ER recommends) for what I'm doing with it.(Drag it once in a while, highway pulls)

Well. There was some confusion between ER and I. ER said they don’t build 2.2L 4g64’s, which sucks as I wanted the ER block. Looks like I’ll have to build it myself or find someone else.

for my reference, the 2.2 4g64 consists of 94mm crank, 156mm rods, and off the shelf pistons?

Use a 4g63 block. The 4g64 blocks are usable, but they have head gasket issues.

Use 4G63 block and 153mm crankshaft
English Racing offer this as "2.2SLR" package

I understand that using the 4g63 would be better but the price difference between cores($300 vs $1800+) is the main reason why I want to stick with the 4g64. Even used 4g63 cores have gone up in price alot and it's tough to find a stock bore used 4g63. ****, if anyone know where I can source a used good core let me know.

The "drag" block is for 1000whp+. If you're looking to make around 8-900 the "race" block is fine. This may be why they wouldn't do a 4g64, because you want the drag block, and the 4g64 really shouldn't be used for apps over 900-1000ish whp.

Myles clarified that for me and said I should go "Race" block when he reevaluated my current goals, but also said they don't offer a 2.2 4g64. So now I need to find someone else that can build me a 2.2 4g64...

Decided to just do a 2.1L 4g64 as sourcing the correct parts has become more a hassle then it's worth it.

94mm crank, 156mm rods, correct pin height pistons are readily available, or can be custom ordered from English Racing.

A 2.1L is ... silly. Theres no need for a 162mm rod with an 88mm crank, and you're getting almost no displacement advantage for what you're giving up in cylinder wall thickness and head gasket sealing.

The crank and rod is not the problem, just can't find the pistons needed to run this setup. I've reached out to ER, Buschur, and a couple of other shops to buy/source the pistons but they don't sell/offer it. ****, I can't even find a part number for them.

You can call Wiseco for custom pistons. Tell them you need K627M87AP with the pin height adjusted for 94mm crank, and the dome size correct for the shorter stroke to maintain 9:1 compression. It'll be a custom piston, and probably 800-900 (which is about what they when I get them) for the set. The pin height ends up around 1.247" IIRC.

FWIW, CP can also do them. Its the same pin height as doing a 94/150 combo in the 4g63 block, and they offer that piston. You just need a larger bore. They sell its as 1.252" pin height, I'd have them lower it a smidge to 1.247" to make sure you end up with deck clearance after decking the block. It would be based on CP part number SC7217.

Don't build a lame combo because the parts are a bit harder to find or have to be made custom.

This is the info I needed, thanks man! I owe you a beer

After speaking with Bushur again, he's going to build the 2.2L 4g64. Deposit paid and is expected in 2021(Jan-Feb)
