Finally(!) have all the gauges installed. As expected, she's running a little lean after a bit of driving. That's typically when I get the rough idle so it makes sense. For the most part she's been running a lot better than she has been, and since it seems to happen randomly I'm guessing it's not the Buschur flash which I've had almost as long as the car itself (with no other major changes). I've already ordered some new exhaust gaskets but now it's time to learn more...fuel filter maybe? Honestly I'm not sure if that's EVER been changed so it couldn't hurt. Don't want to throw too many parts at it but if it needs it anyway, why not....
Not a huge fan of the pods but the gauges are very nice.
yeah, the OEM gauges are all but useless. Also, The oil temp sensor usually breaks at the wire where it goes into the drain plug. Most people are pretty rough with it. The rest of the wiring is surprisingly robust. I was impressed.
I was told that my Oil Pressure Sensor was bad and was changed 3 times 🤨 and while I was replacing damn near everything on the front end I noticed a broken wire attached to a clip plugged in to what I assumed was the "oil pressure sensor" but I have no clue where the rest of these wires are supposed to go or even where to buy the replacement clip with wire. When I tried to research it I can't find anything. Checked a few parts house's and they all keep telling me that my car doesn't have an Oil Pressure Sensor. So I'm taking a wild guess that it's an Oil temperature Sensor I should be looking for? Where do I find out how to replace the sensor and redo the wiring for it assuming I can find any of it?
August update: While removing the EGR valve to troubleshoot a p401 code I had a bolt break. Ultimately I was forced to remove the entire intake (something that will make you hate life). I'm going to try re-tapping it with the help of my father-in-law.
Ah well, this has all been a great excuse to do a bit of cleaning and to replace some vacuum tubes that have been on there for 17 years.
Small update: looks like I once again have a working ACD pump. I removed the old one to see what sort of condition it was in, and well, 17 years were not kind to it. While attempting to take it apart the outside casing of the pump cracked and crumbled right in my hands. Fortunately I found a pump on ebay that had been dinged up and was missing a solenoid. After confirming my solenoid was still functioning I paid the 400 bucks, swapped in the necessary parts, and once again have a pump.
Next up, battery relocation to the trunk. I love Buschur Racing but I'm SICK of this mini battery their parts require.
another mini battery hater lol. whats the issue man
It gets very, very cold where I live and the mini battery isn't reliable to start the car in the morning. I've gone through around ten of them so far and would much rather have something that will start the car when I need it to.
I have left the house cold early mornings so I get you. I think if you have 2 small batts (I had one under the seat but can have 2 minis in the stock tray), both have batt switches, I usually leave one connected for overnight parking at hotels.
You must rewire your starter relay though so you can get more juice from a small batt,
I've got all the relocation equipment coming next week. I'll try to document as much of the process as I can. Then I'll have the wife help me bleed the transfer and, boom, onto the timing belt.
