I give this thread two stars. Unofficially.
Well's that a pretty good grade, it's a "not good" rating in Rob's books.

Power output seems erratic. Kaizen has also verified this. Pretty lame. Can't wait to see what tuning can do for it. I would be considering this car if it wasn't for these power delivery issues, and the currently questionable RDU...

The 2016 Ford Focus RS is powered by a 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder that delivers 345 horsepower and 324lb-ft of torque under normal conditions, but the new Focus RS also has an overboost mode that allows this motor to make 347lb-ft of torque for bursts of up to 15 seconds at a time. http://www.torquenews.com/106/how-mu...345hp-focus-rs

I suspect the "variance" is when in or out of overboost. Either that, or the ECU is dropping people into limp mode.

Over boost shouldn't be effecting peak power. That is noted in the thread.

I don't see how it couldn't affect peak power. More boost = more power. No?

The extra boost is applied down low and through the mid range. It doesn't carry out the top of the rev range. That's how the ST models are anyways.

Right but this guys was saying "The second time down the track I noticed my car was only making 17 or 18 psi in all gears including 3rd and 4th. I couldn't video it with my phone and forgot my GoPro headrest mount, but I was able to have a passenger video it after I left the track and it was still doing the same thing on the highway. When I would row through the gears, at other times when I would stab it in a single gear the car would see 22 or 23psi on the factory gauge. http://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focus...mile-et-s.html

So I think its the overboost that is being inconsistent.

The overboost is for 15 secs at a time, but we have no idea for how long that period will reset when under repeated stress. Overboost may be present at the beginning of a session and slowly fade away as the ECU protects itself.

It's Magnetic grey which you can get as well in the UK. You can also get Magnetic Grey in the USA on Focus ST, Fiesta ST and the normal models as well, just not the RS.

Here are the two greys:

Overboost function is separate from the ECU protection routines in the ST ECU. I don't see it being much different in the RS.

Overboost was one of the first things I turned off when tuning my Fiesta. All the boost all the time.

Seems inline with what I posted if you factor in fuel weight. 1 gallon of gas equals 6lbs roughly.
