Car bogging/jerking on boost
Car bogging/jerking on boost
Hey everybody,
i bought my car (05 evo Mr) around 4 Months ago and everything I went on boost, it would always pull hard. However, in the last month or so, my car has been acting up.. When I would get on boost, sometimes, the car would stutter, but now after driving it today, everytime I get in boost or past 4000rpm the car starts jerking and bogging down.. I'm not sure why this is happening and it concerns me as this is my daily. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for the help!

So I finally got the chance to pull the spark plugs out and here they are. They look worn, but still not sure if this was causing the problems.. What do to you guys think?
Need a better photo from a different angle.
To me it looks like 3 of them have the threads wet with oil but it might be just the angle?
Plugs themselves don't really cause problems, they're just an indicator of what else is broken.
Cause and effect.
Oil on the threads usually means broken ring lands because it's been knocking with too much boost.
But you don't want to know that.

I run copper plugs but even then i was having issues like you are describing. Mainly at WOT and full boost my car would sputter. I swapped plugs and nothing changed.. so i swapped coil wires with new OEM wires and havent had an issue since.
that was around 90k miles and im mostly stock 05 evo 8, hope that helps

The thing is that there was no blue smoke or any smoke indicating worn piston rings.

For now.
They'll also last pretty much for ever or until they get another coating of oil.
Even then, all they need is cleaning.
Copper vs irridium is essencially up to you. Ive read numerous posts about either or. Some people use iridium to go longer intervals. Some use copper because they are cheap.. but ultimately the coil packs are what give the quality spark, wires transport the spark, and spark plugs allow it to be exposed at a controlled distance.
just think of the bosch platinum +4.. do you think it really sparks 4 seprate sparks all at once? No, no it doesnt.
