No sir, you can use it to ignore ALL posts by a given user.

And to help prove a point, not targeting you by any means, I know that this topic has been discussed previously before. While it's new to you, I know I've seen and talked to people about it quite a few times....

He's Mike... who knows. We all just smile and nod at him anyways!

j/k Mike!!

While I like this idea, I dislike it as well. Just because someone is new to the forum doesn't mean the are a Newb... just new to the site. They may have a plethora of knowledge waiting to be unloaded.

I usually check OT and Site Feedback/Suggestions... I don't wander very many other places.

Hmmm. First Kink in the chain. While true, Not every new person here is trying to scam us, we Inplemented the 50 post rule to weed out the retards, while the legit were being punished, while unfortunate it has cut down on the amount of scam ads we've seen.

Woot!

I guess I see what your saying but I dont't know AkA so I didn't get bent by him being banned, Plenty of people are growing tiresome of the mods but most don't care enough to complain and risk making enemies such as timzcat. I and some others really don't care about enemies.

Only the ones in the FS forum... OT still sees them left and right.

Let's say that tomorrow you go out and buy a Honda. Let's also say you work on Honda's ALL DAY LONG for a living. I know I for one would be miffed that I have to go through the entire process when I know for a fact that I know more about the car then 99% of the members.

For another point that was discussed earlier, look at the post in Site Feedback/Suggestions about Unsubscribing.... There is a GREAT example of a member learning, not because someone told him to search, but because someone took the time to teach him.

valid point.

But that car mechanic may not be so savvy considering he works on cars all day and not PC's there fore may be inexperienced at using public forums and theyre tools.

It's not as bad as having to wear a "trainee" sticker but it serves its purpose. And that knowledge that he has will do wonders inside of the newbie forum and he will be able to help the others while building his 50 posts

Point taken, I was looking at it from the other direction.

I wonder if it would be possible to set up a quick 10 minute video/powerpoint/post/etc breakdown of the key features of the site that would have to be watched prior to posting in anywhere other than the Newb forum

I doubt anyone here would be willing to make something like that for fear of it turning out cheesy and it getting posted all over the net. Maybe that black sheep video "posting and you" would be in order?

If I had enough of the technical know-how I'd do it for the site... Even a quick webpage that they would have to go through would work IMO.... I just don't have enough knowledge of how all of that stuff works to do it. I also think that, if it worked, it could be a markstone for other forums with similar problems.

IMO, I think that the vid is degrading and just tells people they are dumb rather than try to teach them the right way to do things
