I am not BR, although it sounds like an issue with the base shifter bushings. Also make sure you antisieze the crap out of the underhood bushings.

I don't think anti-seize will change the effective arm length, but thanks for the idea...I think the softer (stock) setup actually had a slightly longer effective side throw as the bushing flexed...I wonder if one should lengthen the rod upon installing the bushings.

You can adjust the length of the throw in the console area. I have had to do this before but it made little difference. I have installed lots of these bushings, poly and brass and never had a lick of problems with pushing the shifter to get into gear. Also remember that reverse is more of a straight cut gear so see if it is easier to put it into 5th and then reverse. How many miles on your trans fluid?

Hmmmmm....I believe it has to do with the bushing -- when I place the stock rubber pcs. back in the engagement into reverse is fine...This appears to be a known issue, I am just trying to understand the fix.

does it seem like 1st and 2nd gear feel stiffer putting into gear after installing the bushings?

I just picked up a set of these for the 6-speed and will hopefully be putting them in in a week or so
