Dyno Results - HKS 280 + Methanol

my guess is no. the lift is the same on all of the HKS cams....the duration is the only difference.
Again, the idle quality with these cams is dependent on the cam settings. I have mine set to give a big midrange push, and it does exactly that. The idle is strong - no danger of stalling, but it sounds VERY aggressive. With the 272s, you had to listen to tell if there was something going on with the car. Well, there's no mistaking it now.
The torque comes on like gangbusters, and things happen very quickly when the meth starts flowing. The feel is very V8-ish. It's a ball to drive, and now accelerates out of slow corners like nobody's business.
The meth kit is by SMC (same as Buschur). I chose to work with the manufacturer directly because I wanted a provision to keep my IC sprayer functional. I don't like switches that do nothing.
Oh yeah, at nighttime, when you get into it and let off the throttle, you'll see a blue flame burst from the tailpipe - telltale meth. I think someone (Paul?) took some photos of that.

ALL tuning was done on Dyno4mance's DD dyno.
A big thanks goes out to Andrew and Shiv, without who's patience and generosity none of this would have been possible.
And as far as how I like it, well, let's just say that I have no complaints! Even in part-throttle driving, the difference in torque is unmistakable. The car feels much more like a V8 now as opposed to a 4-cyl that begs to be downshifted.
Finally, the improvement in low speed VE is obvious. So far, I'm realizing about a 10% improvement in fuel economy. My pervious record on one tank of fuel is 330 miles. I think I'll be able to better that now. This is about as close to having one's cake and eating it too as can be at this stage of the game.

alky injection would be very nice...what alky were u running at the time of the tune? did he tune you on a race map or how did he go about setting up your car and maps? how does you alky decide to turn off and on?
WHEW! NICE
i was looking and after you listed all your newest mods you posted 313whp...i was like, damn, that sucks for all that. THEN YOU DROPPED THE BOMB.
thats crazy power man, congrats. I wish you would run on strait 110 to see exactly what is making all that power. you added so many things, its hard to tell. Is it the meth, or the cams?

I have two maps:
(1) 93 oct
(2) 93 Oct + Methanol
I keep the car on the 'race' map, and just keep it topped off with methanol. Should I run low on meth, the low level alarm comes on, and I switch it back to map (1).
The injection fluid is 100% methanol, and is injected through an M15 nozzle at 120psi.
The meth injection comes on at 15psi boost, and peak meth flow is reached at 20psi boost.

But the meth must be given due credit. Going from 313 to 348 just by injecting meth represents a power increase of 11%, and a torque increase of 15.7%. Not too shabby!

Remember, this is 93 octane + methanol injection. NO race fuel was used.
Results:
348 whp @ 6400rpm
338 ft/lbs @ 4400rpm

A few photos...
- The injection controller fits *perfectly* inside the coin tray, and this makes me happy. Sorry about the glare.

Wohoo , Shiv finaly tuned 11/1 afr on meth , and got great results . wasnt there a other thread about how thats to lean for meth ?
Ted , great # glad you got the 280's to ideal to your likeing . BTW I really enjoyed reading all your psots about cam gear timing/lobe sep..
