Actually the presence of a cat mitigates the flame because the basic purpose of the cat is to light off any unburned fuel. The cat will work at least as efficiently for methanol as it would for gasoline, and would eliminate the flame.
Hmmm, looks like I better start saving for a new clutch. At the local grudge matches on a private stretch tonight (no laws being broken), the ONLY thing able to stay out of my rearview mirror was a worked over GT on street slicks with a big nitrous shot (runs 11.80s). Everything else was toast and got a view the blue flames from my tailpipe. Needless to say, I'm satisfied.
...but I began smelling my own private 'clutch BBQ' in the process.

The methanol does not last very long, considering the injection rate is right around 1000cc/min. Nevertheless, it lasted long enough for me to easily smoke the top challengers. The car is so quick, that I was usually able to shut it down early in 3rd and call it a win. No one argued!
Now, as to how long the fuel tank lasts, the answer to that is rather surprising. See this:

Menthol is what I spray in my interior to keep it minty fresh.
On the other hand, the methanol doesn't get engaged until ~11psi because it's not needed earlier. It reaches peak flow at 20psi and holds it to the top (25psi) because this is where peak methanol flow is required to get the most hp.

The idea is to inject enough methanol such that it displaces some gasoline, then retune the A/F to get what you had before. If you can inject enough methanol and tune accordingly, you'll eventually get that 91 oct to perform like 100 oct or so.
You would contact Steve at SMC (http://www.smcenterprises.com/alcohol.htm) and tell him that along with the kit, you want a bottle that is drilled for the IC sprayer parts.
The trouble is where to mount the bottle. In my application, about the only option I have is to run a smaller battery to make space.
