Dyno Results - HKS 280 + Methanol
I think we're all at various points on the learning curve when it comes to supplemental injection.
Nevertheless, whatever A/F proves to be optimum for straight gasoline should be optimum for meth injection. Common sense indicates otherwise, but that's because we're all trained to believe the O2 sensor measures A/F, but in actuality, it doesn't. The O2 sensor measures free oxygen, not A/F ratio. It only assumes the A/F because it assumes one is running 100% gasoline. If it did actually measure A/F (as it implies), then one would absolutely need to run a much richer indicated mixture. This is confusing and certainly isn't obvious.
Nevertheless, Shiv did a great job with it, and we all watched as he kept eeking more and more power out of it. He was extremely thorough, and we didn't even twist the 'boost screws' too tight.
I'm already contemplating switching from meth to hydrogenated dicyclopentadiene...as soon as I can calculate the stoichiometry. It should give more power and require less injected throughput. But, that's another discussion...

I have a separate bottle for the IC sprayer solution, but I need to get a mini-battery to make room for it. SMC provided me with an auxillary bottle that was pre-drilled for the IC sprayer pump. Once I do that, my IC sprayer will again be functional.
I think it's time for someone to eat humble pie!

The solution is to map your tuning device and lean out the mixture slightly, this will give you a significant gain in power levels.
IMHO you cant compare a car that is pig rich off the scale to one which is dailed in on a proper a/f, just my two cents.
Methanol mixes makes max power running very rich. AFRs that would make gasoline bog and sputter. But, of course, you should know this being an expert tooner and all

Just curious... what was your meth strategy? And how did it differ from Shiv's? It's just that I have the AMS kit on, but not tuned, and I'm trying to see how I can make some quick HP before I take it to Vishnu to tune.
Please, take the humble pie discussion to another thread! Let's keep this one clean and informative.
The meth strategy was simple: Inject plenty enough meth to make the engine stumble and sputter. Next, trim gasoline out the WOT fuel table until the A/F is in familiar territory, and tweak from there. Shiv did this and applied additional tweaks until we were seeing another 20whp on top of that.
This methodology allows for the most out of your injection capacity. However, I must point out that you absolutely CANNOT allow the meth to become depleted, otherwise you will be faced with an immediate lean condition, and your fate will rest with the ability of the ECU to save it. On the other hand, the factory ECU would probably have a better chance of saving you than another system.

Hi guys,
Just to let you know, Ted's car was tuned just like every other car on the dyno, methanol or no methanol. There are no AFR numbers that I shoot for. I just make changes, see the results and make additionals moves from there. There are no differing "strategies" at work here. It was a pleasure meeting Ted and tuning his car and I'm glad it made good numbers.
Ninjox-- Tuning a big jet of meth on 93 oct will yield a very different AFR numbers than tuning with a smaller jet of meth on CA91. So it's not advisable to play the numbers game in this instance.
Just my 2c,
shiv

Also, I unplugged my OBDII scanner before driving home last night to determine if there was any change with the P0300 misfire tendency. I am pleased to report that the misfire has not returned. We'll hope it stays that way!
Very nice numbers. I have very close to your same mods, except I run 264 cams and run a Dynoflash with AFC2. I dont have a alcohol/metanol injection kit YET. I am considering getting one, though.
Approximately what kind of numbers would those be equivalent to on a Dynojet AWD dyno? This is a question for those who have tuned there cars on both and have a good comparison.
Ted B: I have the same Greddy Upper IC pipe. It looks like yours is strained a little bit to fit by the stock battery. I wanted mine to fit perfect so I got a slightly smaller battery.. This battery is 1" shorter in length and 1" shorter in height, but lets the pipe fit much better. I think it was a 26R if my memory serves me right. Got mine at Autozone.
Sorry off topic.

As far as what to expect on a Dynojet, unfortunately, that seemingly depends on whose DJ you pick. The DJ power numbers would range from 390-405whp or so.
Not bad for a piggyback ECU and a few minutes of tuning.
Yes, but that little bit of raise in boost in the middle with give the car momentum up top, even if its only holding 1 more psi there. It was holding boost longer as well.
What does your timing map look like on meth? is it zeroed out?
