The red Evo was in American Touge 1 and didn't run (It had a warped head gasket). This thread is discussing American Touge 2, where the silver Vishnu Evo came in second behind a Skyline with racing slicks.

Wow, he was very apologetic about the whole thing. I wasn't expecting that. Very humble. I guess the types of cheater spec tires don't exist in Japan and they did not realize how serious each tuner whould take the event as a competition rather then "just a video shoot" Looks like they will be better prepared next year.

Came in 2nd is an interesting way of putting it. Technically the Aspec and Mueller Evos ran faster lap times (see the link above to the MR2 board where the times were posted). Also, given that Robi's car ran a 0.58.xx on that same track a day earlier, it is implausible that despite being officially untimed for the main event, his car would have run slower than a 1:03.xx. So, tire controversy aside, in the AWD class alone it would have been 5th or further back.

That being said, I think Shiv was screwed in being told he was advancing and then seeing the Skyline run in the finals instead.

It would have been fun running the MR2 against the Evo.

David, that time sheet was from earlier in the day. Those times ended up being revised. As you may notice, Navid hadn't run yet. The time that they counted for us was collected after Navid's run. I hope they will post all of the final times.

Cool. Thanks for clarifying. Do you happen to know what Navid ran? How about Robi?
This whole scoring system seemed more than a little shady to me.

The timed runs were legit. They did seem to take a lot of care into ensuring that the cars were timed properly. They just didn't make it very clear as to how those times were going to be processed into a victory. I think the car that Robi brought as #402 which was timed at 5.89sec (off the 1 min mark). I don't know what Navid ran. Nor do I know what Bill at I-speed ran. To really see the whole pic, we'd all need to get our hands on the final time sheet.

I had a conversation with Robi after the event in which he told me about the 58 second time - which would have trumped the 1:01 Skyline - allowing an overall Evo victory even with all the back and forth over tire compounds/construction.

On a personal note, the Turbo RWD class is where it hits home. Not that most people here care, but the best I can tell from what others learned at the event, the Vivid turbo RX-8 ran a 1:07 yet advanced to the final round along with the 1:07 NSX. Bogus indeed.

Hi david,
All those times given (eg. 5.89s, 1.23s, 5.4s, etc,.) need to be added to 1.00 min to get the final laptime. The quickest car of the day was the Skyline which ran a time score of 1.2s (which equals 1 min + 1.2 seconds). Hope that clears things up.

Shiv,

I understand, but Robi told me he self timed at 58 seconds using, I beleive, a hot lap timer the day prior. I guess, different day, different driver. That probably speaks more to his driving ability and knowledge of the track than car set-up.

That being said, I still think the moral victory here goes to the Evos.

(1) Available for sale and legal use in the U.S.
(2) Attainable at a reasonable price to the average consumer (no $100k+ car)
(3) Your car and Robi's in particular turned in phenomenal times on treaded tires (no slicks)
(4) Your Evo and Mueller Evo had full interiors - no race track stippers (ahem, Skyline)
(4) All this on 4 cylinders in a four door car with a useable trunk - amazing
