IMO a key advantage of the XEDE is the increase in overall resolution over the stock ecu. Here in California with only 91, the ability to cut off a half a degree instead of a whole one can come in handy, as a single degree drop in timing causes major losses in power. The list can go on for other functions, inputs, outputs and controls...ie...NLS, conditionals etc.

Tuning that close to the bleeding edge is dangerous in my book.... that is unless it was tuned in the worst possible conditions.

What Alfred is refering to is the XEDE allows fine tuning withing Safe parameters in 0.1 of a degree optimizing Safe performance , not using it to tune to the bleeding edge...there is a big difference in interpretation.

There are three reasons that I hang on to my Xede:

1. The Two maps that I can switch back and forth. Sometimes I wish there were three maps that I can switch between, 91 ocatne, 93 octane, and 100 octane. But two maps is fine by me.

2. The boost controller function of the xede. Not having to deal with an MBC is fantastic.

3. The ability of the xede to fune tune the timing in 0.1* increments. With a flash you can only do it 1* at a time.

The thing that I hated about the xede is the inability to easily figure out real timing. Thanks to Innovate, this problem has been solved. You can now log all the Xede parameters via Logworks.

I'll live with a flash on my IX for a short while, but I already miss my VIII XEDE like crazy.

This has actually been possible for a long time with pyxede. I had a little toy logger that got base timing from OBDII over a year ago. Grabbing timing from MUTIII (at a much higher samplerate) was working in sept.

Unfortunatly, it requires a little bit of programming knowledge to use. I'm always too busy to create binary packages.

So any new ideas/opinions now that it's been out for a while and Shiv's probably had a chance to mess around with one or two of them?

Actually from my understanding he has not, I spoke to Dustin a few weeks back he told me they have not tuned a FP Green Turbo as of yet.

He tuned 2 in CO last weekend. Both made 330s on pump, but with a really good curve. Check the dyno day thread.

The ECUs reaction to this pre programmed sensitivity is not actual knock or even a less than perfect condition in the map.
As I understand it, the Xede will deaden this sensitivity by 20% allowing you to get a bit more aggressive with timing etc. before the factory ECU pulls in the riens....also the Xede has the ability to move timing a fraction of a degree as oppose to only a full degree in the Ecuflash software...this allows more precise ignition advance
This is what I understand as being the benefits of the Xede over Ecuflash....
I would hope Shiv will jump in to confirm or correct me as this is his forum and he knows a whole lot more about the Xede than I do
Hope this helps
You can "deaden" the knock sensor sensitivity with the XEDE SMART system. The stock ECU seems to be most sensitive to engine noise (i.e., knock sensor voltage) between 2500 - 4000 rpm ... bad news for those of us running w/out balance shafts.
