E-Coast stg 1+ dyno-day?
Oh. OK. You got me worried a bit. I have the AEM tru-time cam gears. I do not hear any noise so I assume I dont get any rubbing anywhere. Where should I listen for it anywayz? Is it really noticable if its there?
Good job with the tool. It took me a while to change everything. I actually think we strated and stopped at the same time (not the same day).

You will know if the gears are rubbing. you can also feel them hitting the cover if you have your hand of it. I guess it doesnt matter since you are running without your cover. Arent you worried about a rock or debris getting in there?
Also, anybody, I cant find the xupdate software on the Vishnu web site. the link to it in the XEDE getting started file does not work. please help!

They are very knowlegeable in 4g63's and i followed their advice. What i'm getting at is that if you get a new tensioner would't that be percise?
I have no idea, never did a cam install due to the horror stories.

Nothing to be concerned or worried about. My point was only that a 1 degree variation in initial cam timing will not be discernable.
I actually know a lot of people who leave it off. I even have seen a lot of cars here with pictures of the cover left off.
I dont think anything will get all the way up there, but thanks for the TLC

DSMBrett has a story about an Evo (might have been a DSM) that got a rock got thrown into the cam gear pulley area while the cover was off. Car ended up being allright but sounded like all hell was breaking loose. It wasn't on a dirt road either. It was in the mechanic's parking lot. Just from pulling the car out and around the corner during an install.

Water and oil on the belt significantly reduces the life and strength of the belt as mentioned in the service manual. The manual recommends changing the belt if oil or water come into contact with the belt. A little extreme IMO, but nevertheless they are contaminants to the belt and should be clean of such contaminants. Radiated heat from the compartment also accellerates wear to the belt sans covers. If the belt is contaminated it can only be worse. Oil contaminants baking on the belt can't be any good. Depending on the environment in which one drives their car a rock may not find it's way up there, but those that hose off the engine compartment or live in cold climate areas where condensation may develope on the belt may need to keep an eye on the belt and perhaps change it sooner than recommended per service manual.
